The nation's first transgender legislator has just been elected to the Virginia House of Delegates. This is another major first for civil rights.
Congratulations to Danica Roem!

I have a fweind in Roem...
She apparently centered her campaign on issues like fixing the state's infrastructure.
Her opponent seems to have focused his on: "Eeeek! It's a tranny!! This pre-vert will push the
ungodly LGBT agenda on our children + try to use the women's bathroom! Civilization will topple!"
I guess this proves that you really can't fool all of the people all the time.

Not to make light of her win
but eleven Republican incumbents lost their seats in the Virginia house of Delegates but not a single Democratic incumbent lost. They also won three seats with no incumbent so she obviously benefited from the overall political upheaval in the state where the Democratic candidate for governor also won..

Election is acceptance. A
Election is acceptance. A newspaper report quotes Danica: Standing on a table inside the pub, Roem dedicated her win “to every person who’s ever been singled out, who’s ever been stigmatized, who’s ever been the misfit, who’s ever been the kid in the corner, who’s ever needed someone to stand up for them when they didn’t have a voice of their own. This one is for you.”

Acceptance
True acceptance will be achieved when the election of T person is NOT newsworthy as such.
Yesterday my city, St. Paul, elected a black mayor. It seemed like a non-issue to me, but it did gather some national notice.
A good day.

Not just her!
Two other transgender individuals (that I know of) won elections today. Andrea Jenkins won a four-way race for the Minneapolis City Council, becoming the first out trans woman of color to be elected to public office in the United States, and Tyler Titus was elected to the Eire School Board, the first out transgender person elected to office in Pennsylvania.
Progress!
Whoops!
I was going by the article I linked to, but it looks like that one overlooked Ms. Iwamoto. Thanks for pointing that out!
Congrats to Danica
Not taking anything away from the lady who is absolutely beautiful and intelligent. She had facial work done and that gorgeous mane of hers is the perfect picture frame for a very attractive lady. She has brought it all together for a stunning attraction I believe most males would find irresistible.
