A funny thing hit me about Social security!
In both of my fan fic's My characters much like Fey/ Nikki or Gwen/ Absinthe or Sara/Carmilia
they have VERY long life spans and like those above---JOBS!
so they all pay into USA based Social security! Via that "job"
So when they hit age 65 or 67 or maybe 70?
Will they get a retirement check for the next 50,000 years or more!
Elves and GOO on Social security Benefits and medicare forever!
That would mess up the national budget some!

Social Security is a savings account, not an entitlement so perhaps it will do you until 100?
I was very serious about moving to Canada, in the Lethbridge area, and it looked financially feasible. Now there has been talk here in America that those who leave America will lose their Social Security benefits, so maybe I will have to stay to help fight that out.

There is no maximum.........
Payout or age limitation on Social Security benefits. In fact, the payout is based rather on how much you contributed, and at what age you start collecting. But, whether you live to be 70 or 150, the monthly check remains the same.
My inlaws are 92 and 97 respectively and both are still collecting exactly the same as they did at 65. Based on the longevity of both sides of my spouse's family, they may both last for quite some time yet.
One of the issues with the program is that when it was first conceived the average lifespan was shorter than it is now. Combined with the change in the birth rates, this has resulted in higher than projected payouts and a skewed percentage of collectees versus payees. In other words, fewer paying in compared to more taking out for longer periods of time.
If lifespans were even longer...........

It might not work in USA, but
it would certainly work here at Czech rep. - after working about 30 - 45 years, Elves, GOO and co. could get "old age pension". We have a concurrent pension system where working force feeds the crippled and aged ones. But they would not get rich on that. Pensioners get about minimal wage or to about +15% above it, depending on their income during the working time and that actually paid their social insurance (you pay about 29% out of 25% of average wage - insane I know, but that are bureaucrats for you). Though you can increase your pension by saving for it and state give bonus for that too.
On mythic beings hording wealth.
Except for some deities and dragons (mostly Chinese dragons). The mythic beings most known to horde wealth are leprechauns. And I always figured a leprechaun's pot of gold was more of rainy day fund. I mean you can only find those pots of gold by following the rainbow after a rain shower so it kind of makes sense.
one thing is you do not have to retire once on Social Security
People are living longer and staying in the workforce longer, with these people when they start drawing SS at 65 can still pay into it based on there continued income.
So at the same time they draw on it they are still paying in.
I know plenty of people who refuse to retire after turning 65 and they refuse to retire for fear of taking away all there daily stress making them keel over. That is actually why men used to die so much younger than women so much, they think.
So the Husband would hit the age of mandatory retirement and be forced to retire, say he had a high stress job, the body grows accustomed to the stress hormones like a drug and then thy just stop and go cold turkey, it would actually cause them to die within a few years.
This is a theory they have used to remove mandatory retirement or at the least to start a responsibility phase down over time to allow them to adapt to lower stress levels and at the same time begin to Relax.

Winding down
I retired, sorry gave up work at the end of Sept 2016. Mentally I was winding down for at least 6 months before that.
Now that I am retired, I have a load of different stresses. For one my Mother turns 95 on Wednesday.

My father was one of thouse workaholics, when he wasnt working at his job he was working around the house. He always had side projects going on, like renovating rooms, building sheds, rebuilding engines, you name it.
After he retired he decided he'd take it easy for a while and spent 3 years fishing and camping. Then he suddenly died, he was only 62 and hadnt even started drawing SS yet.

It's also based on how long you would be expected to live. Truthfully fey, absinthe and others would probably have very hefty ss taken off of each paycheck and they would probably be expected to work to the equivalent age of 65. Ie probably somewhere around 365 years.
My stories
I have considered this in my stories, since I love to have the aged male transformed in a young female, thus gaining 40 or 50 added years. I assume that the system would pay out if it were a rare thing, but things would have to change if large numbers were so afflicted.
I like to think that there would be a cash payout based on pay ins, or a time when payment would be made. I would love to be 17, female and have my pension for 10 years or so to fund a college graduate degree or two. It would be so much easier this time, without all the parties.
