We've been having a lot of crashes the last few days.
One thing I thought might be responsible was the bandwidth limiting software we installed, so I've temporarily disabled it.
A second thing, I noticed in looking at the logs AFTER I disabled the bw-limit stuff: lots of database errors involving titles with apostrophes in them. By coincidence there are more than a dozen recent titles with apostrophes in them. DOH!
I'm not sure why an apostrophe would cause an error to be thrown without making the story inaccessible but I've edited several of the story titles to replace apostrophes (') with backquotes (`).
If the crashes go away, we'll try adding the bw-limit software back. And I'll see if there is any info on apostrophes causing problems in titles in this version of Drupal.
Thanks for your patience. :)

Erin

Er, that’s sucky.
And is off-putting in titles.
The error is presumably Drupal failing to escape ' properly in titles. ' is of course used in SQL to enclose string constants - titles but not body texts are likely to be simple database text fields, as opposed to text objects. That should make it relatively easy to fix. I've used apostrophes without problem in my Drupal install though, so maybe it just wants a newer version?
In any case, a better character to replace ' with would be ’ (close-single-quote) rather than `, which is actually a single grave accent. Did it work ok in the subject of this post? :-)
Did in Preview anyway...

Probably
Yeah, csq would be better than backtick. But I wanted a quick fix, something I could type, just to see if it helped. :) I don't remember the code for csq and didn't want to look it up. LOL.
However, on some browsers, csq may show up as something else. Backtick always looks like backtick, clunky as it is. :)

Titles
Hi Erin, I am all new to this and your site as far as posting stories.
I guess my latest stories maybe the reason for your crashes, if I read your comment right. For that I'm truely sorry. I can leave the quotes off on my title if you wish.
Also another question, I do my writing in Word2k from my office suite. I am using your second selection in the list, and it states something about I have to convert it to text or html to put the document into the text box. I have been cut and pasting the text right out of Word2K and pasting it into the box, then find out my carriage return line feeds have gone amiss, and I end up going through the document again putting them back. The first two times was no problem, but the last 4 times it has happened.
What would be the correct procedure to do this?
Could I have caused the crashes?
Can I put pictures or illustrations into my text and have them show?
My text is running at Gaby's fanfic site and you can see the type of pictures I use.
I have not massaged my documents properly I think. So it maybe the problem area. If it is I'm truely sorry. I'm am new at posting things.
Don't worry about the titles
Don't worry about the title thing, I think I've got that handled. :) You probably did not cause the crashes.
As far as posting from MSWord, since everyone's setup is different, what works for me is no guarantee to work for you. Experiment and find what works best for you. Some people post by copy-and-paste from Word and have no problems. Just try it. :)
And yes, you can put pictures in your stories here. If the pics already exist on the web somewhere, just use HTML img tags to put them into your stories. If you have other pics to upload, you can go to bigclosetr.us/gallery to upload pics and then call them from there in your stories. :)

Pictures in stories
The picture was part of the MSWord2K document, wouldn't it already be in the text? I truely haven't a clue how to transport the pictures to your area. I am sure it is easy but I hadn't done it yet anywhere so I am at a bit of a loss
On a side note? If I am logged on, will I be able to see comments left to my stories? If so where would I see this?
MS Word and comments
The short answer to the question about Word is "no." :)
I'm working on an easy way to include pictures with stories, so maybe this will be solved soon.
Comments on stories appear at the end of the story and a link to comments appears under the teaser on the front page of the site. One problem with getting comments on your Rhod stories here is most of the usual commenters at BC visit Maddie Bell's site, too, and if the stories appear there first may have already seen them. For that reason, most of Maddie's stories posted here, the Gaby series, don't have many comments either.
But hang in there. :)
