K.T. Leone recently passed away. Coincidentally I was reading her God Bless the Child. I haven't read much that Katie write for the last ten years or more. I didn't care for some of her themes and we "spared" years ago.
I just finished God Bless the Child. If you haven't read it, you should consider allowing yourself this treat. It's graphic and not for the faint of heart. It contains some religious sentiment, but not more than what is needed to be true to the story.
If you have read it and enjoy it as much as I did, please consider donating money to Hatbox. Erin is covering part of Katie's final expenses. Erin is not wealthy and can't afford to take on extra expense, but she feels compelled to step forward due to her friendship and Katie's long and deep involvement in this site.

I agree with you about both this series and her writing style. Katie Leone's were the first Transgender fiction books that I ever read. I started with the Unreachable series and then was sucked into God Bless the Child. I often have speculated about whether she was torn between her own reality and the dichotomy of whatever religious influences had been imprinted on her personality, and if so, how much pain she endured as a result.
Some of her writing was not particularly to my taste, but her gritty realism and intelligent dialogue sold them for me. I have a feeling that, had we known each other, we might have disagreed a lot on such topics as theology and metaphysics. One thing I would not have disagreed with her on was her love for children and the preciousness of life. I feel like this is one of the hallmarks of her work.
Like you, I would extend an invitation to everyone to support this cause, and not let her light fade into darkness.

I found anything Katie wrote to be deeply moving. I would hope that she was not writing from real life experience. her stories resulted in a lot of tears in instances. all in all I welcome the oppurtunity to reread them. RIP Katie, you will be missed.
