I was just watching the news and they reported there is a new scam out right now. Here in the States it's tax time. Apparently the scammers are sending out an email that appears to be from officials concerning filing your taxes online. In the email are the usual nasties, malware/viruses, that steal your pertinent information. Please be very careful. Bad guys are out there so what your butts my sisters and brothers. See link below.

Beware Old Scam, Too
The scam that scares me the most is where someone gets a hold of your SSN and files a tax return with the IRS claiming a refund, at "your new address," or direct-deposited to "your new bank account." Then, the IRS gets around to checking your actual W-2 form, figures out you weren't entitled to that big a refund and comes to claim it back, against you.
email and social media
I have 1 email that i use for regestering to websites, forums and games ect. anything sent to me i automaticlly assume is a scam. It's kinda funny that i get around 100+ emails a week.
i guess i dont even have a "real" email, maybe im slightly old fashioned but if email wasnt a requirment for registraitions i probablly woulnt even have one.
Like cell phones, dont own one...

re: scam
old scam worked for someone using my son in laws name and ss. he still hasn't received his refund from 2014. he had to file paper this year because his address wasn't what scammer used.

It's that time of year, people are flush with cash from the government or scared they will force an audit...easy pickings for many.
They tried to scam my sister this past summer with a phony check from the IRS drawn from a bank in another state...nice try, but I spotted it before she cashed it.I had to kindly explain to her why it was bogus and what she needed to do about it. Something about "it'd be a US Treasury check" didn't click with her but at least she sought their advice on what to do.
Funny, a similar scenario popped up Manhunt in the Heartland Part 11 but involved electronic transfers instead of paper checks!

This is a UK resource (although the advice is good globally - just please forgive the weird spelling) run by the government that my team and I have been actively involved with supporting for a number of years.
There are a number of us on BCTS who deal with this for a living. If anyone of you has a concern let one of us know… we (often) can help.

Another IRS scam
is a phone call from someone claiming to be with the investigation dept of the IRS. If the IRS wants you they will sent you are real letter, possibly certified.. Just hang up, no good can come from talking to these people.

Ive gotten the phone call...
Ive gotten the phone call from a IRS scammer. They hang up when I tell them I work at the social security administration in woodlawn, Maryland. It's a lie but they have never called back.
Tax scams in UK
Currently one in UK coming out by e mail alleging you have a tax refund due click the link for the details etc. One look at the sender proves it is false as it is not a uk.gov address. Any way HMG does not email that type of data directly even for those who use an on line tax account. I guess we all need to be careful as tax time is now a world wide scamers playground.
