IT CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR ANYONE WHO HAS NOT READ THE VERY LATEST EPISODES OF ANY OF THE ASSOCIATED WORKS

Please note that I have deliberately included some references more than once — this is because, when I write, I might need, for example, a list of all Guildsmen. So Master Haflin would appear in that list and also in the list of the Royal Guard. This saves me some time when I need to reference something.

        • Blackstone River — a stream that emerges from Blackstone Vale and joins the headwaters of the Bray just south of Blackstone Town

        • Fanir River — Runs down through Lower Fanir where it joins the Sirrel opposite Yod City
        • Faral River — Runs down from Upper Faral and into Faralmark where it joins the Sirrel at the capital, Bibek
        • Fer River — A tributary of the Sirrel, it flows down from upland Ferenis and then turns to roughly parallel the Great Valley wall for some twenty marks before joining the Sirrel opposite the north-west corner of Forguland.
        • Nardenis River — this river flows to the west (and joins the Sirrel much further up) from the crest that separates this valley and that of the Therel. Its valley lies between the Telar Valley to its north and, to its south, the above-shoulder valleys which lie to the north of the Great Valley. This is in the Kingdom of Shald.
        • River Pak — Born in the uplands of Zebrin, it tumbles over the shoulder into the Great Valley and after a while it forms the border between Zebrin and Pakmal. In its few marks of descent to join the Sirrel, two cuttings siphon off mini-streams to provide free-flowing water through each of the two capitals – Zebrin City and Pakmal Town

        • Yodan Watercourse — A tributary of the Sirrel on the south side which drains the uplands of both Yod and Pakmal. It used to be called the Yodak. Theoretically the west bank and lands behind it belong to Pakmal whilst the east bank and hinterland belong to Yod. However, Yod long ago forced the Pakmalis out and claimed the entire side valley for themselves, renaming it to reflect the new reality.
        • Zebrin River — Runs down through the middle of Zebrin from the Zebrin uplands. It joins the Sirrel roughly in the middle of the country; approximately half way between the River Pak and the Syrob.

      • Lakes
      •

        • Crescent Lake — an enormous ox-bow-type lake created when the river was diverted by a storm. Is nowadays an important waterway as it cuts a lot of distance for water-borne transport to the countries up-valley from Palarand, due to a canal at roughly each end. Several bridges cross this lake, but are not shown on the map
        • Dymyr’s Lagoon – a small open bywater on the downriver side of Bibek in Faralmark that is neither lake nor river, but more a sheltered anchorage. Later renamed to the ‘Royal Dockyard’ in preparation for Princess Eriana’s visit.

“There are ten Thumbs to the Foot, a Stride is three Feet, and a Mark is one thousand Strides," she recited. "Or, looked at another way, a Cast is twenty Strides and a Mark is fifty Casts.”

Penny has stated that a Stride is very close to being the equivalent of a metre, therefore a Mark is the equivalent of a Kilometre.

In Faralmark, a basic unit of length is a ghally (plural ghallies) which is the equivalent of 250 strides. Which can be considered to be the same as one quarter of a Palarandi mark.

    • Months:
    •
Note 1 — Garia was discovered in “nearly mid-summer”

Note 2 — There are 13 different months in a year, although a year is not EXACTLY 13 months — it is 12+ months. Each month is 31 days but each year is 391 days. This means that the months 'bump up' by roughly a half or two thirds of a month each year. (12 times 31 is 372, so each year is 12 months and 19 days long).
This means that every so often, roughly every three years, a year occurs with no Endormin in it — the days having overlapped so that Marash, which ALWAYS starts the year, can be started in the first few days of the year.

  1.     Marash
  2.     Femurin
  3.     Hirf
  4.     Pertelin
  5.     Keruvil — Garia arrives in this world in this month in the year 1174 since the Great Flood
  6.     Lemilat
  7.     Choth
  8.     Worduman
  9.     Ozmelat
  10.     Avilat
  11.     Bretherin
  12.     Zuberak — Winter starts in this month in the year 1174 stGF — This month bridges the old and the new years as 1174 slips into 1175 stGF
  13.     Endormin — The 13th month that is usually there, but sometimes it is skipped so that Marash is always the first full month of the year (Endormin did NOT appear at the end of the year 1174 stGF)

Cool!

First non-superhero universe here afaik.

Wow! Lots of Work Here

Thanks so much. This is a great reference.

It continues to impress!

There are a lot of towns in the US with less people then on this list. It is incredible. I just hope tales continue to be written in this universe after Penny completes SEE.

Nitpick

May I suggest that Garia needs to be added to the list of the Royal Institute of Engineers.

To keep this manageable

Especially if the universe keeps 'growing', an Oracle database might be in order :)

But seriously, that might not be such a bad idea (some kind of database, even it it is like SQLLite), that way one can easily add categories and have the characters and then generate a query to get data and use it as a basis for another program to use to generate the data in this web page.

The database can also drive a small program where a new episode is read in and a comparison is made between capitalized words that are not in the database (ignoring the common pronouns and prepositions etc) and showing to the maintainer for adding to the database.

On a similar vein

I believe there are Excel to HTML converters.

Holy moly

Sav Sara's picture

Julia, did y'all give up your life?
This is a work of immense scope and indeed reach.
I am most impressed, Sweetheart!

Mighty fine.

These reference works were not of much interest to me at first. But after I got into the whole Anmar thing (thanks to a tip from Dawn Natelle, another great writer) I started to make use of them.

I now re-read the WHOLE Anmar batch around once a year, and make regular use of these files while I do that. I love how it all keeps growing. The collection of details that you have built and maintained here makes the whole thing all the more interesting.

Thank you so much,
T
