When I first began to read "Whisper", I thought it was well written, and had some uniqueness to it. The language in the story sounded like a teen age kid, not some English professor.
Some where along the line I lost track of the story, perhaps when she went to Whateley. I respect the author that originally came up with the 'verse but since then so many have just dumped their protagonists there and gave up on the story. Now when it is mentioned I usually just stop reading it because I do not want to think of Whateley to be a place where good characters disappear.
Somewhere along the line someone got to Sleether and must have told her that her work was awful, used bad grammar and had a host of other mistakes or that is how she interpreted it. Who appointed you to destroy creativity? This makes me really upset.
She rewrote almost the whole story and now I am wondering if I will recognize it?

Whisper went Canon
When Whisper was first posted, it was Whateley fan fiction. This new version has been revised to fit the canon and go through the review and collaboration of the authors who own the other characters. Sleether has been promoted to a primary author on the Crystal Hall site, not flamed.
Give the new version a read. It's very good!
i'm glad it's canon, but
i'm glad whisper is canon, but wish the old version was left up on sleethr's site and listed as non- canon. that way we get to choose which one we want to read. many might like the canon version better. i will be glad when sleethr continues with whisper in the dark. great story. thanks sleethr.

Sleether, I thought you were a fine author before and if they have hurt you in any way I will not be happy for a long time. I'm not going back and starting over. I may try to take up where I left off. I'm upset and still upset about a personal loss and right now I just want to hurt something.

Whateley revitalised
Gwen, I love the passion with which you fiercely come to Sleethrs defence, but this time I think it may be misplaced. I hesitate to comment because I know so many people feel so passionately about the different worlds and stories based in them but I think some of the problems that you mention with the Whateley universe stem from some technical issues with the website that have been addressed now and Sleethr, Elrod and Morpheus seem to be leading the charge on revitalising the universe with authors that were part of the earlier canon group joining in with new stories or continuations of old one (E.E. Nalley and Bek D Corbin). I still miss Jade and Tenyo's wacky shenanigans but I relish the chance to read the new canon authors and Sleethr is one of the best. The v3 rewrite has tightened up the story, I think, and it doesn't suffer for the small changes required to make it canon-compliant. I agree with you, the original Whisper was great. The latest Whisper keeps everything that made the original great and it sits alongside the other canon stories - which gives me an excuse to read it yet again ;-) That seems like a win-win to me.
Writing in Character
In my own writing, I have no delusions about being a professional writer. It frightens me to think of what an editor would do to some of my stories if I were to publish them on the open market.
Several of my stories include Middle Eastern characters, some good, some bad. It is important to me that they be faithfully rendered in the story, so when they are speaking it is obvious that some of them need an ESL tutor. That is how they really sound and that is how I write them. I spent 7 years living in Middle Eastern sub culture here in America and ended up doing a very natural thing. I began to talk like them. True some Middle Easterners living in America speak flawless English, and others retain their heavily accented English. To me it is about authenticity.
So, in Sleethr's first version, I felt that the language used was in keeping with the character of a young teen. I'll leave unsaid some of the cutting things I think about those who caused her to feel her work was flawed.

I seriously do not understand your objections here at all, but if you really preferred the fanfiction version as originally written, it should all still be in the Crystall Hall forum. The only major change in this version appears to be timing related as Fey is needed back at Whateley on Sunday due to events in another story.
