Recently at work there was perceived racial slur in a comment overheard by a third party and as a result we were all issued a copy of the company's unlawful harassment policy, which I quote below.

Unlawful Harassment Policy Acknowledgement

I have received a copy of the Unlawful Harassment Policy and understand that the Company is committed to providing a work environment free of unlawful harassment. Company policy prohibits sexual harassment and harassment based on race, color, religious creed, sex (which includes pregnancy, childbirth and medical conditions related to pregnancy or childbirth), religion, marital status, age, national origin or ancestry, physical or mental disability, medical condition genetic information, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, gender expression, military and veteran status, or any other basis protected by federal, state, or local law or ordinance or regulation. All such harassment is unlawful. The company's unlawful harassment policy applies to all applicants and employees, whether related to conduct engaged in by fellow employees or someone not directly connected to the company (e.g., and outside vendor, consultant or customer).

I acknowledge that I have received, read, and understand the Company's Unlawful Harassment Policy. I understand that failure to comply with the policy could result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment.

This was followed by a signature line and we were all required to sign in testament to our intent to adhere to the policy.

The part that I found interesting was, "Company policy prohibits...sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, gender expression,..." Not only gender identity, but also gender expression. Pretty good, huh?

Mind you, my company is a California based corporation.

Unlawful Harassment

That IS pretty good, especially considering how many states still allow companies to fire people for any of those things...

harassment policy

Most multi-state public traded companies prohibit harassment for gender/sexual orientation... I know my company does. I am of the opinion they didn't do it by their own free will. It is probably required in one the state's they operate in.

Kudos

Kudos to your employer and thank you for the encouraging post.
