Amazon is pushing a new series called "Transparent".

Jeffrey Tambor is in the starring role as a trans parent.
Does anyone else remember him on Hill Street Blues? As I recall his character often cross-dressed . . . on advice of his psychiatrist.

I remember him from Hellboy and Arrested Development...
He has a tendency to take on very different roles, so it will be interesting to see how he handles a trans role.
Is the first episode any good? I don't know if I'd bother to follow the series -- melodrama is not my thing, and a show like this will doubtless be rife with it -- but if it's played well it has the potential to be a boon for visibility.

Transparent
the pilot was out months ago, Amazon has been floating ideas to see what people want to see, and the fact that Transparent won a spot is awesome. hopefully it is for educational, not perversions sake.
i saw the pilot, and what they covered was pretty decent.

Did it get better?
Somehow, over the last 20 years, I think it has gotten better, owing to shows like this and making it all more public.

As I recall,
Mr. Tambor's role on Hill St. Blues was that either of a lawyer or a judge. He had some kind of breakdown (in the series, not in real life) and his shrink prescribed crossdressing as a stress reliever. I could be wrong, but that's what I remember.

As a T-woman, I do have a Y chromosome... it's just in cursive, pink script.
Tambor
I think he started as a sleazy lawyer and later in the series became a judge.
