Every time I attempt to do that, as with the first story I ever posted here (the incomplete one) the story soon bogs down and I get stuck.

Nice to know that I am not crazy
Finding someone else who has the same experience when they wright. When my muse is hot I just need to ride it out. Being in that grove is such a rush. For me my sense of time goes out the window when this is happening and I need to have my phone set to ding every hour so I do not run off the rails.
I am looking forward to your story as every story of yours that I have read to date has been enjoyable and of high quality. Carry on Lady D C and I will read it.

Way to go
Ten thousand words is a milestone, but before you go much farther you should pick an ending. After you know where your story is going you can fill in the middle with as much adventure as you want. If you don't, you might become frustrated with the direction your story is going and quit writing, or never finish what you've worked so hard for up to this point. Good Idea
I agree about picking an ending. One can always change one's mind later, either as one writes further, or in revision. Of course, "revision" assumes that you write the entire story before you post it, rather than posting chapters or parts as you write them. An author must be willing to revise, and even cut out whole sections -- no matter how it breaks one's heart. (One doesn't have to discard or delete them. They can be saved for later ideas or inspiration.)

Binge writting
I've had that happen god knows how many times. Inspiration strikes like lightning and your fingers fly across the keys. Within a day you've written 10,000 words. But you get tired, and go to bed... then next morning the magic is gone and your left scratching your head. Another awesome story goes in the file of unfinished Binge Stories, and gently the mournful sound of Taps plays in your heart.
