I was reading an article about "motion-capture" in regards to the newest Planet of the Apes movie, and as a throw-away comment, they mentioned that an actor could play "any creature, any race, and either sex".
That got me thinking, what would happen if an actor played a female role via motion capture?
It sure sounds like the sort of thing our writers here could have some fun with, so lets make it a challenge - can you make a story where a guy plays a girl using this tech?
I'll be interested to see if anybody tries this challenge ...

Andy Serkiss is probably the most famous exponent of the art, playing such people as King Kong and Gollum. The actor wears a close-fitting suit with datum points on it that a computer linked to a camera can capture, and then the CGI effects are overlaid and tied to the actor's motion.

Though this was using a slightly older blue-screen type technology, it's the same idea and allowed for actual crossdressing.

can even take the actor's facial expressions which can be transferred over to the digital character. Andy Serkis's Cesar portrayal goes far beyond what Roddy McDowell was able to do with foam masks.
The same tech is also used in the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy movie with Rocket Raccoon and Groot an intelligent tree.

It's interesting...
It's interesting and the tech is pretty cool, but as it stands right now, there isn't really anything in it for the actor.
They are just wearing a spandex suit and performing in front of a green/blue screen. They may or may not have the other actors who would be part of a shared scene working with them.
There's no body/gender disconnect for the actor to have problems dealing with because they act out their scene, maybe see a crude rendering of it on a monitor and then, the next time they see it, they are sitting in the theater and watching the finished product with everyone else.
A male actor might need to wear breast and hip forms under the suit. Maybe there could be something done with a crossdressing plot, but the male actor would have to have some skill that a female actress would have trouble duplicating since it wouldn't matter what the actor/actress looked like.
Maybe 10-30 years in the future, they have some sort of holographic overlay they can project over the actor's body to give them the gender dysphoria?
Maybe all the acting is done in virtual reality with computer generated avatars?

Motion capture.
Motion capture is also how "some" of the animation in games and VRs are created now a days, particularly some of the emote type ones like dancing etc. Although many are still done by manipulating a model step by step. The motion capture method seems to be coming more common.
