We had a drive failure on the BigCloset server. We're limping along right now but we've ordered a new drive and will attempt to get it installed as soon as it arrives in Denver, probably tomorrow or Saturday.
Since this is the boot drive for the main server, this will cause a certain amount of outage time, estimated 4 to 30 hours, depending on how quickly Denver gets the new drive imaged with the right version of Linux, etc.
In the meantime, well, we're still behind on the Hatbox though I haven't updated the latest totals. Anything you can afford to send will be appreciated.
Hugs,
Erin, Piper, Cat and the BC crew

Outage
Was that the reason for the 14 hours outage before this? I thought at first that it was a routine maintenance, but by 8pm (+8), I was worried and started googling for Erin's contact somewhere. Couldn't find anything, so I was very worried.
But then I thought that maybe the site was blocked. Thought maybe someone in my country in charge of the country's ISP became overzealous again and pressed that blocked button on anything remotely my country considers immoral. They did that lots of time recently. Bloody politicians.
So I made a report on Herdictreport, and 2 hours later, the site came back online. So I thought it was because it was blocked. Nice to know that it's really just downtime. I will be very annoyed if bigcloset is blocked.
Rebuild database
The site was down earlier because of the drive problem, we had to rebuild the database.

Alternative contact point?
Is there another site where one could go to discover outages and restart times on occasions like these? The worst thing that a user wants to experience is zero information.
It needn't be anything fancy, perhaps just a static page somewhere with a reason and ETA.

Sometimes
Often we will put up a note at TG Fiction. Net, it's on a different server.

@SPFN and StoryPortal.Net
Not to be contradictory... But when we expect a long-term or even longer than a few minutes downtime, we generally post @ http://StoryPortal.Net and you can also follow the StoryPortal Twitter feed at http://storyportal.net/ (or @SPFN)

Oh, yeah
Story portal is the one i meant. :) Don't mind me, I've had about 3 hours sleep and Piper the same.

Contribution
Erin . . . It has been a few months since I last sent you money. That makes me a cotton headed ninny muggins.
I sent $100 a few moments ago and will try to remember more often.
Big Closet is a huge part of my life.
Thanks to you and all your volunteers.

Only a hard ware failure?
Thank goodness. I was worried that it was UK social services trying to suppress news of Danni's abduction!

Not Sure If This Helps or It's Just Karma
However you're operating now (limp mode). The site seems to be responding very well.
It is
We moved everything off the bad drive.... but that's the boot drive. We got it to boot when it went down but if we have to boot again... it might not do so.
