Alright like the title says, I've been a bad girl. Before the end of the year, some of you might remember me posting about my walking. I was doing four miles a day and was getting close to a fifteen minute mile. I know, I know some of you more healthy people can run four miles in twenty minutes. But for me this is huge, I had it a stretch goal to be running by March I think. Well the moving to a new store that is farther away; don't get me wrong I love the new store and am glad all that nastiness from last year (read about it here if you want) is done with, it has cut into the amount of free time I have. The holidays, extended hours and bronchitis didn't help either.
So this is a new year I'm getting back on track. I will have to start slow so I'm going to try for two miles not timing myself just to get my legs back. I will move my running goal back a month and hope I can still get there. I am still trying to be a lot healthier this year, and don't want lose my momentum. After all it is only five months till swim suit season (that'll be the day). So all my friends cheer me on as I cough and wheeze through my walk today trying to stay upright.

Nothing wrong with a fifteen minute mile. We all like to be better but never let the best be the enemy of the good. I don't know your age (I am 61), but even for a young person a 4 mile an hour pace is fine.
To graduate to jogging
To graduate from walking to jogging, i would jog 100 yards and then walk for a while before jogging another 100 yards. Over time, I increased the amount of jogging vs. walking until I could do all jogging. Now, I'll usually jog but occasionally walk. The main thing is to get the exercise.
You might want to think about having as your primary goal making this a permanent part of your life, rather than achieving a particular time. Then you can feel good about exercising rather than feeling bad about being slow.
Also, I've found that an ipod filled with great tunes can make it much more pleasant.

Real Life often intrudes on self-set targets, and you do have a valid reason for falling behind on your fitness target. As I'm sure you're planning to, take things slowly, gradually build up to where you were before events, then continue to build up at your own pace. To quote a UK supermarket, "Every Little Helps" :)

I'd love to walk a fifteen minute mile...
...But due to vascular vein blockage I'm only allowed a maximum of twenty feet. On February 5th I have surgery to remove an aneurism from behind my left leg and then go back for more surgery at a later date on my left leg and then again to operate on my right leg. Before the vascular problem I enjoyed walking. I used to hie trails her in Delaware. if you can walk a fifteen minute mile when you run you will notice your running time will be less than fifteen minutes.
I used to do the tread mill for an hour walking for the first ten minutes and running for the last 50. I miss being able to go places.
I'll just let you write about your walking and I can live vicariously through you.

walking any distance tends to upset my back, and despite the snow, I managed 15 miles on saturday - couldn't walk that far if you paid me!

Your wheezing and coughing, I don't think you should be outside walking hon. I think you'll just get sicker. Please be careful! Maybe try an indoor Mall if you have one close by. (but do leave the credit cards home sweetie! LOL). Feel better soon, sending Big Hugs, Taatpa

Thanks for the comments everyone. Did 2.5 miles, not bad for just getting back into it. Not hurting much but will find out tomorrow if that sticks. Did wind up coughing a bit the sick part of the bronchitis is gone just the lingering cough not to bad. Ang I will start riding again once I've got my legs and balance back, but I won't try to match your herculean feats on two wheels. Thanks again everybody. Exhausted smiles, Jenn.
