Maybe I'm one of the fortunate ones, whose family put up with me. Perhaps it's wishful thinking on my part; maybe it's tolerance rather than acceptance though, with a couple of lesbians, a couple of divorcees, a bisexual transwoman and a black man in the mix, we're not your average Brit family.

Perhaps it's as well that both my parents are dead; they'd never get their heads around this lot.

Being myself has meant a lonely life but that's the hand I was dealt and I had to play the cards as they fell.

Make the best of it; that's all you can do. I'll be thinking of all those who, for one reason or another, can't be their true selves.
