I have mentioned the desire of doing this for quite awhile, but I finally had all my stories taken down from fictionmania. Normally I don't like to post what I do on one site on another, but I thought this was appropriate because I know of several authors who cross-post to both sites.
I wanted to explain my reasons and the final straw.
First and the major reason why I pulled my stories down was the majority of content on Fictionmania didn't coincide with what I was producing. All in all, I am trying to be a "real" author who produces thought provoking, hard-hitting, emotional works that have a certain level of professionalism and quality to them. I tend to stay away from the fetish of cross-dressing and the false stereotype that all transsexuals are "Cum thirsty cum holes" (their words, not mine). With the abundance of smut and the desire expressed on their message board for finding such smut or the creation of more smut, I decided that it was best if my stories found a better playground to play in.
Second, there is a real lack of support on that site. People rarely comment, and when they do they are unfairly critical. I for one appreciate criticism when it's valid and put across as being supportive. I have been critical of author's here, but always with the design to help them improve their writing, never to tear down and never to build myself up. I am always seeking to improve, and the only way I'm going to improve now is if my flaws are pointed out to me (I'm not going to discover that I've been doing something the wrong way after 30 years of doing it). I remember when I started posting and Erin pointing out, quite strongly, that I needed to learn the differences between there, their, and they're and your and you're among other mistakes. We are suppose to be a writing community (I think) and that means helping us get better.
Third, and maybe this is nit-picky. I don't like the site layout. It seems like everything you do has to be a chore. To submit a story takes about four separate pages to do so. To comment on a story and to look up comments you have to go to separate pages as well. It just doesn't flow that nicely.
And finally, and this is what broke the camels back. They don't allow you to promote your work that is for sale. I personally think that it is bullshit. I could understand if they took that stance for authors who never posted works on the site or who had a habit of only promoting their books, but for an author who had been their over a decade and posted numerous stories through the year, I think that is a poor policy. Because I offered my book on Amazon and signed up for their kdp-select program, I was not allowed to offer the work for anywhere else for 90 days. I got permission from Amazon to post part of my work on story sites as a way to generate interest and went well beyond the percentage that they agreed to. Just like I did on BC, I submitted a third of the book God Bless the Child to FM with a link to buy the remainder at Amazon. The story was never posted and the early version wasn't allowed to be taken down with a note saying it was now available as an e-book. It's a shame, because at least with FM I had another audience.
So, you can all read my works here. I know that I have other works lingering on other sites. I know I got some on Crystals and I think I have 2 stories on Piper's website. But, I made a decision and I am sticking with it.

Sounds good good to me,
I understand completely. I've always thought you could make it as a writer. I have stopped with FM more or less. When the reading block started I suspect the forced fem and even nastier stories were affecting me more than I knew. I try to avoid them the few times I am able to read.
So...
Any recommendations?
I tried this
I tried to pull mine (for other reasons, mostly bitching from people there) but because I posted them from addresses I don't have any more, I couldn't do it. The site is full of abandonware.
not as think as i smart i am
I haven't posted there for over a year.
Some of your complaints were the same as mine, and I objected to some of the things that they allowed to be published there.
Though there are good stories there if you're willing to sift through things, I am not going back to posting there, which is kind of sad since the first story I ever posted online was there. I haven't removed my stories there, just won't post there any more.

FM
I considered posting my stories at FM for all of about thirty seconds. But, going through a mental checklist, I didn't think they'd fit the criteria that seems to be a must there these days...
Forced fem? Nope. Sissification? Nope. Angry wife cuckolding sissy husband? Nope.
I think that it is fine that a site exists to cater to stories of that sort, it is just not for me or my stories. A small dose of that sort of thing is okay, but one story after another? No thank you!
The site is filling a niche, perhaps, and that is not a bad thing, in and of itself.
Not intending to bash FM or start a war over which site is "best". I think BCTS covers all categories quite well, while the other is drifting more to certain categories.
I think of it like this
I'd keep my stories open over there, that weren't published, just for the sake of the free advertising. Someone over there might stumble across my work and like it enough to inquire where else I am located on? And maybe find me over here? or other Websites?
And then maybe Amazon.com...?

I say this only with a great deal of reluctance....
...because there are people here who post there also, as you did. But I have to agree with you about the content in the last couple of years. Now, I realize there's a subgroup in the TG community that likes that sort of thing--but I'm not part of that group, nor do I wish to be. I like positive TG stories--it doesn't have to be all sweetness and light, but the protagonist should be allowed to persevere and become the person he/she wishes to be.
I hate saying this, because Fictionmania was--as I'm sure it was to a lot of us--my introduction to TG fiction. I first found the Altered Fates stories there, which still rank among my favorites. There are still some gems, but it takes too long to find them these days.

introduction to TG fiction...
When I first started actively searching it out, Sapphire's was my introduction point. Before that the concept started entering my head through mostly manga and a few web comics. From Sapphire's I eventually exhausted what was there and wondered where the rest of several series were. When I started searching, I found BC... For me, FM was always just too confusing and when I did seem to find anything, most of it was trash. I gave up on the site without really reading a single story there.
I'm not entirely sure how I found Sapphire's and why I didn't find FM or BC first, but... That is what it is. By the time I was looking BC had already been around for a LONG time.
Honestly... I agree with Katie's assessment of FM. And add to it that the place is just plain impossible to navigate, which someone else has mentioned.

How I wound up here .....
I started with FM and Nifty, then on to Sapphire's & Crystal's, before finishing up here at BCTS. Now, I rarely (if ever) return to the earlier sites (although, I'm starting to explore Stardust). For now, BCTS authors and their works provide almost all my online reading - entertaining, sometimes thought-provoking, occasionally(?) off-the-planet quirky and humorous, well written, and, all in all, VERY good reading.
If I could drop a ton of buttons on my twenty-or-so favourite authors, I would.
Thanks also to the sysadmins, for providing this really good site. VERY much appreciated.

Sigh...
...wanting to have another venue to publish, I've been adding stories over there as well. I posted a story today that was panned; not a problem for most of the comments since they said it was too confusing. But one said it wasn't 'erotic enough,' which certainly has never been my intent anyway.
I just reinstalled XP on another hard drive; both laptop and desktop had gone to that great big BEST BUY in the sky, but we had a computer that was shot EXCEPT for the hard drive. All that to say that between my trip to the library today and now, urged on by your blog, I am going to ask that my work is removed for the first two reasons you cite above. Thanks for everything.

not good, not bad, just is
My first introduction to TG fiction was through Nifty.org, a few (and i mean it, only a few) amazing stories are there that are seemingly exclusive to that site. This of course fanned my fire for these stories and i quickly found FM a few days latter.
Then one day I read an awesome story on FM (about a certain mischief making succubus) that left me starved for more, and so i searched out the author of one of my favorite all-time stories and tracked her to here at BC/TS.
It is for readers like me who fell in love with one story or another and in their quest to read even more ended up here, that i would say "why take it down?" I don't think that it would harm anything to leave the stories as they are. However this is *your* decision and *your* stories, so you have my support.
Most the stories on FM are.... well... ick! So i completely understand where your coming from.
Honestly
While I write TG fiction stories, I have read next to none for a considerable period of time. My reading tastes are picky and I have kind of moved on.
So I haven't really noticed the changes at FM as to what type of stories have taken over at that website except I've noticed a drop off in comments sometimes. One story of mine totally fell flat there but another garnered over 15 comments. Falling flat seems to happen here too with my stories, and that's why I'm not very motivated to write or post anything. To not hear a peep at Stardust or FM is one thing, but when it occurs here too and these are the only sites you're publishing at, well why waste the energy. The crowd who wants just (Fill in the blank) TG fiction can be found here too. If you're not producing it, good luck getting thanked for all your hard work.

Fictionmania and fetishes
When I first started reading FM, it really seemed like the focus was more on the transformation and story than it was on the fetish. Lots of them used sex - often the 'cum slut whore fantasy' hammer the sex home type.
At this point, they advertise over 20,000 stories. 2800 stories are 'Physically Forced/Blackmailed', and 9200 stories are 'Crossdressing/TV'. Almost _half_ have crossdressing as a main theme; I don't believe that TG and crossdressing are even close, thankyouverymuch. Maybe spending 3 years researching the subject with a sociologist specializing in human sexuality as a mentor/teacher does that to me.
Femdom? 4100. One fifth of the stories are femdom.
I could use their search engine to narrow down the percentages better, but, in short, Fictionmania really seems to have become the forced slut and abuse home for too many so-called authors. For the most part, I don't get off on abuse.
I'll get a life when it's proven and substantiated to be better than what I'm currently experiencing.
TG vs TV
I am trans, but I don't dress en femme. I also don't get on my knees and suck anything just because I am told to. I know who and what I am and I feel I am in a good place. I take hormones, but I don't live full time (most of my issue is a cross between my weight and my fear of rejection, which I am working on with my therapist).
I might spend my whole life in this state. I am happy with a lessened libido, though sometimes I yearn for physical contact. And my hair, which really doesn't respond well in the wind, is awesome. The only drawback is that the hormones have kind of a prozac effect on me that blocks my free thinking. I can't visualize things or get lost in ruminating thoughts like I once use to. I don't think it's effected my writing, but the only ones who could tell would be Wren, JennC and Raf.

I totally agree with your decision. Hope to see you become a well known author.
