Not a lot of enthusiasm for this here at BC, so the consensus among our admins is also no. At least, not for BC. We have two other sites we are attempting to bring up within the next six months that reader tags might be just the thing.
However, this discussion gave us some parameters for this:
1. It would be opt-in for authors whether they allowed any of their stories to use user tags. Default, no user tags. And a switch where authors could turn off user tags for one or all of their stories.
2. Tagerators would be necessary and authors would also have moderating authority over tags. Some kind of two-step moderation, where tags did not appear until approved except by trusted taggers.
3. Tagging should probably require some "investment" by a tagger, like leaving a comment first or paying for the tag with "buttons", whatever they are.
But nothing is going to be done with this idea here at BC.

If you ever want to experiment I'm game.
Somehow the response didn't surprise me, writers in general are control freaks, at least as it pertains to their stories.
Side issue, how do you feel about posting the same stories at the other sites? I know it is regularly done, but I'm not sure of the etiquette of how it is done. The only reason it pertains is I may post one of my many stories (2) and let it be a Guinea pig.
Posting stories elsewhere
I encourage it, generally. Any site can go down. The only stories I asked not to be posted elsewhere were Hatbox stories for the first year.

Both places have more restrictive editorial than BC so some stories are not appropriate.

Hmmm.
I have to say, I still don't really understand how the tags would work, so I don't know if it would be important to me. However, I really enjoy reading input from my readers, good or bad, so if I was to post on the other sites, I'd be willing to give it a try. Anything that will improve my storytelling is welcome. I just want to get better at entertaining my readers.

Thinking about tags, I recalled that Amazon uses them.

If you go to a book's page and scroll down you'll find "Tags Customers Associate with This Product". Of course popular titles will have many, others few or none. Amazon may also suggest tags even if none have been added by customers.
I can see how they might be useful.
