Hello everyone:

I have been wringing my hands about this, hopefully not like some drama queen, and have changed my sign on to match my pen name. I can not nessessarily articulate all the reasons why but it just feels better this way.

So now, Gwenellen is simply Gwen, or Gwen Brown.

Happy Thanksgiving

Confused?

You're just trying to confuse us aren't you?

Alarmed?

I for one am very glad you lot can't see me.

Alarmed wouldn't be the word I'd use for me - not strong enough (bag of spanners comes to mind...)

Name changes

This brings to mind the ye ole saying "A rose by any other name would still smell as sweet" No matter the name you're always welcome here with us. :)
Hugs!

Having done the same thing,

I can completely understand your desire to give yourself a name which reflects your own self image. Happy Thanksgiving, Gwen Brown. As grover said, "a rose by any other name..."

And yet...some names simply don't fit their owner, especially in our cases. A male name is simply unacceptable for almost all of us. In any event, you are welcome here, no matter what name you choose. I kinda like this new one though. :-)

There's a subtle magic in names, they're an important part of us.
Refusing to call someone by what they want to be called is a weird power trip.
Like calling a very proper Charles "Chucky", or all those instances where a family
member will stubbornly persist in calling a transgender person by his or her old name
as a means of sticking it to them, showing their disapproval of their personal evolution...
So while the difference between Gwenellen and Gwen might seem a slight one, I can sense how
important it is, and I honor the heck out of it, without needing a "reason" from you. Gwen Gwen Gwen.
Hi Gwen! By whatever name, your blogs & comments always seem to hit home in some way. The giddier ones
(your infectious joy over your consumated transition) make me smile, and the more serious ones impress me
with their emotional honesty, your way with ideas & language. I like you, Gwen!

Anecdote: When she was about eight, Frank Zappa's daughter Moon came up to him and complained about the fact that she had been saddled with such a WEIRD name. Ever the Libertarian, he said "Well you're about old enough to decide such things, I'd be happy to let you change it. What do you want to be called?"
She said "Beauty Heart"...

Can't Complain, Gwen

You did drop ellen as part of your name, shame on you as that was Mom's name.

Your new last name I heartily approve of but then I've been using the same last name for nearly fifty years.

Gwen Smith isn't half as good.

PM me or use the email address about that story you wanted help with. The address worked as I got your message. Proofing-wise I'm ho-hum -- okay I suck, happy, Itinerant? -- but I'll be glad to give you tips and pointers from a readers perspective.
