"You enter the store room..."

-----------

Deciding that it might be wise to make sure you are well prepared for whatever might happen ahead, you cautiously enter the store room. Inside you find a small, semi-circular room filled with crates and chests, each clearly labeled and illuminated by a glowing orb of magic light dangling from the ceiling. Many of the boxes have been pried open already and are devoid of contents, but the few that are still sealed all seem in good repair. Checking over yourself, you are dismayed to realize you have very little room in your pack for additional items, and decide that, combined with the fact that the evil wizard is probably committing more evil deeds even as you train to defeat him, you only have time to look through three of the available boxes before moving on.

What do you do?

Pick three:

--Open the box marked "magic potions"
--Open the box marked "Powerful but possibly cursed potions"
--Open the box marked "small furry woodland creatures"
--Open the box marked "miscellaneous armor and clothing"
--Open the box marked "Half-charged magic wands"
--Open the box marked "talking skulls and other familiars"
--Open the box marked "Rare spellcasting components"
--Open the box marked "weaponry for minions"
--Open the box marked "Magic reversal charms"
--Open the box marked "Holy artifacts and books"
--Open the box marked "Gold, lots and lots of gold"
--Open the box marked "Transgrandular Conflubulators"

Then, pick one:
--Take the stairs down (entrance)
--Take the stairs up (entrance)

Voting begins... NOW!

NOTES: As I've said before, I'm gonna take advantage of the fact that I'm not reliant on the limitations of a book format to give you choices you wouldn't have in a normal CYOA. If this is too much, though, let me know, and we can limit back down.

Sorry I've been taking a day off between chapters, I've been trying to give the story time to garner more possible votes for choices. Unfortunately, it hasn't really been working, so I'll just say -- if you read this, comment with choices!! This is one story where EVERY COMMENT potentially changes the entire direction for the story. The hits tell me that at least twice as many people read the story as comment on it, so there should be at least half again as many comments as it gets. Come on, people, it's an interactive adventure! Be interactive!

First, open the box marked "Talking Skulls and other familiars."

Pull one out and then ask Yorick for advice on which other two things will be most useful in defeating an evil wizard.

If Agent Skully doesn't have a good opinion, open the box marked "small furry woodland creatures." It's wrong to keep something alive boxed up.

If Fluffy or Bonehead are interested, then open the box marked "weaponry for minions" and get them some toys. If not, go with "powerful but possibly cursed potions." We're already powerfully cursed, so what's the worst that could happen?

And what the heck happened to Lisa? Did she stop following us at the Dragon?

Take the stairs up. We're here for knowledge; knowledge is frequently in books; books don't do well in dank basements.

--Open the box marked

--Open the box marked "Transgrandular Conflubulators"--Take the stairs down (entrance) there just might be a few prisoners you can help

Open the box marked Magic

Open the box marked Magic Potions,: Potions might include rapid healing and other things, and should not take up much room.
Open the box marked Rare Spellcasting components: Since the others didn't take them, it might indicate that prior visitors were not magic users, and they may not take up much space in the pack.
Open the box with magic reversal charms: defensive measures, likely worn, and would save space in the pack.

Then go up the stairs

Eeny, meeny, miney, mo.

You're on a mission, and haven't got time to waste trying to converse with a skull - especially as you'd probably have to ask it to translate into layman's English!

So, let's stock up with a variety of potentially useful stuff. I'll helpfully colour code each option depending on whether I'm ignoring it or using it.

Magic potions - he's an evil wizard, so I doubt you'd want to get near enough to either spike his tea or pour the bottle's contents on him. So that's two options discounted.

The small, furry woodland creatures probably won't be much help to you, and given they're in a store room either they're more dangerous than they sound or they've been captured for nefarious purposes. They can probably wait until you return after completing your quest.

Miscellaneous armour and clothing sounds potentially useful. You may be going up against a mage, but it's probably a good idea to defend yourself against conventional attacks as well.

Half-charged magic wands - without knowing how much charge they hold and how much energy is drained by a single attack, it's probably best to leave them alone.

Talking skulls - as I said above, you're here to get supplies, not have a conversation!

Rare spellcasting components - you're an innovator with magic ability - the original spells may no longer exist but I'm sure you can find them useful somehow!

Weaponry for minions - minions are generally the footsoldiers of evil-aligned people. So the weapons would probably work great against someone 'good' aligned, but be rubbish against someone 'evil' aligned (after all, you don't want your minions trying to overthrow you!)

Magic reversal charms - definitely a good idea!

And that's your three items. If you could buy yourself some extra time, the holy artifacts and books could come in useful, but it's probably better to use more conventional combat items. You're on a time-limited mission, so shopping can wait until after the evil mage has been defeated. And he's not likely to give up his quest for power on the promise of a financial bribe. You probably have as much idea as I do what "transgrandular conflubulators" are, so it's probably wise to avoid them!

As to which direction to take, we found out last time that the dungeon is downstairs and upstairs is dangerous.

Unlike Berk, I won't open the trap door, so the only way is up. (And yes, I like finding obscure YT references!)

O_O

First, I wish we'd had that show here when I was a kid, 'cause that's the exact kind of thing I would have loved.

Second... I dunno what to say about the song. Wow.

Well, with this kind of a choice

---I will take "small furry woodland creatures" - aka squirrels. Because they will provide me a link to the troll, and his help will be very appreciated.
---I will, per other person's suggestion, ask a few hints from the familliars. Whether I will take them with myself is still up in the air. Likely not, they are old and set in their ways while I am the Innovator.
---I will NOT take with me any "Rare spellcasting components". Because this may be exactly the component the evil mage needs to cast "The Spell Of Doom!". And the same goes for "Transgrandular Conflubulators".
---I will take with me "Magic reversal charms". Because they will come in handy way down the line when my companions are petrified (literally) or transmogrified.
---I will also check "Holy artifacts and books". Because if whoever sent you here was a god, you'll find info on him or her there.

Oops, it may be four choices though, depending on the interpretation. :( Drat. I guess I'll pass the on familliars then.

And I will then go UP the stairs.

Well, to me its seems good

Well, to me its seems good to choose:

talking skulls and other familiars - its great to have friends and they can give me advise

Holy artifacts and books - well, we are dealing EVIL mage. So holy things should be very, very effective.

weaponry for minions - if I have gained familiar, then why not to give him/her some equipment?

Go upstairs

1. talking skulls and other familiars for magic advice/info

2. rare spellcasting components for better potential innovation

3. magic reversal charms for protection from the evil mage's magic

Take the stairs up.

Thanks and kudos!

Strange...

...that nobody who preceded you took the gold. That'd suggest they had other priorities than plunder, but then it seems odd that all the magic would still be there. (Unless the only people in the storeroom have been those who lived there, and you're about to get busted for theft when you head upstairs.)

Anyway:
- Take the non-cursed potions for sure. They probably won't take up much space.
- Ditto the reversal charms. (You may even need one upstairs, if your host acts before you can explain what's going on.)
- Open the holy artifacts and books. You'll probably have to pick and choose among them without much of a clue, but if the bad guy down south is truly evil, whatever you can carry is likely to help.

Those items would seem to minimize the risks and the time needed. There's probably a greater upside to many of the others, but you don't have the expertise to know what's what, and you apparently can't afford the time to commune with the familiars and get the needed answers.

- Go upstairs.

Eric

(I don't have a problem with doing this every two days instead of one, if that's easier for you. And I'm not sure to what extent you took into account that some of the early voters undoubtedly come back to see how things are going. I know I do, on the rare occasions when I'm not near the bottom of the comment list.)

RAMI Holy Artifacts and

RAMI

Holy Artifacts and Books - ALways good to have holy things on your side
Magic Reversal and Charms - Reversal charms can do away with bad spells
Armor and Clothing - If attacked by non-magicl beings good weaponry helps.
