I am getting ready to take the plunge to full time and legally changing my name.I talked to my mother earlier today and asked her to choose my middle name since I've been going by Amy for so long.The first thing she recommended was the feminine version of my male name Stephanie.Personally I couldn't handle it for two reasons one it's to close to the name I've had to deal with for way to long and secondly I'm lazy and I want a short name to write. Well one thing led to another and she said had things went as they should have I'd have been named Lisa.I did nix the next thing I knew that was coming Marie for a middle name LOL.So I will be going with Lisa for a first name and my mom has a week or so to decide a middle name for me.I can't express how well the conversation went between us and she said she is only worried for my safety but will love me no matter what.I have changed my user name from amym to Lisa440 and I've asked Erin to change my author name to that as well.I'd be lying if I didn't say I'm a little nervous but I know in my heart this is the right thing for me.

It took a while
I told my mom about me being Trans in my teens its taken over thirty years to get here.She could put up with me being gay(After thirty)even visiting with a boyfriend for a week.The last couple of years I think she's started to see just how unhappy I was.But you know I'm at peace with it and I'm happy to finally start feeling accepted and being able to say yes I've got a good mom.So I guess I can say it does get better but sometimes you got to wait for it.

I Kept My Same Initials
I kept the same initials when I changed my name although my middle name of Danielle was not the feminized form of Daniel. My first name of Jennifer was a tribute to a friend who passed away as I mentioned in "My Life Transgendered" My last name is Campbell and I am very proud of my Scottish ancestry so I kept that the same. Congrats Lisa! I am so happy you have a mother who loves you unconditionally.

on deciding what you want to do and for your mum in supporting you. I know I was pleased I had the support of my mother, however bewildered she was at times about it.

Much the same as you, My parents seemedf to handle me being gay lots better than me being TS, but I did get a name from my mom. Given that my older syster's name is Sarah, I made it clear that I wouldn't take Rebeccah(I know how her mind works) so she had to go hunting through the old testament to find something else and wound up with Abigail. I took my sister's middle name for my own since she wasn't using it anymore(She used her surname as her middle name after she married), so I wound up with Kathleen, and since I'm married, I of course took my husband's last name. The whole thing bears no resemblance at all to my birth name, but I like it.
I hope your journey goes smoothly. I know taking the first concrete steps is a completely liberating thing! Enjoy it!
