Pardon me if this story resembles a Rube Goldberg contraption but...

Around the 4th of July I went out to the garage to get something and discovered the neighborhood stray cat had decided to have her kittens on top of our camping gear. Not wanting a new batch of strays in the neighborhood I took the kittens inside, firmly intending to give them away or call the ASPCA or something.

Yeah, right, I should have known better! They were so adorable and cute we ended up keeping two of them - Curious George who was into everything and Harry Houdini because this one kept getting out of the cage no matter how many holes I plugged. Seems we're raising transgendered kittens because they both turned out to be female.

In any case, last week our house guest finally left for her new home and I have had a chance to dress up for the first time in months. I chose a fringed skirt I am particularly fond of without realizing I was wearing a kitty toy. By the end of the day my pantyhose were shredded and I discovered they were my last pair.

So, off to the store where I looked at my empty wallet, saw that pantyhose were three for $8 and knee highs were 12 for $5. So, for the first time I tried wearing knee highs. I found out I've been missing something. They don't roll up over my belly and fall down like pantyhose, they don't need a garter belt that slips over my non-existent hips and they stay put, unlike thigh-highs. Since I prefer long, full skirts they are ideal and cheap. It was a strange path to that discovery, but I'm glad I finally made it.

knee highs

Knee highs are a great invention for ladies wearing pants or long skirts. They are also much cheaper to make, so they are sold at commodity prices.

Thigh highs are also a great invention. If you can't keep them up though you are wearing the wrong size. I wear them pretty much all winter long, as my cubicle is next to a drafty aisle. It is a challenge to find the proper size and a reliable source, but I much prefer them to pantyhose.

Good luck with the kittens, they are hard on both!

I always wear a garter belt.

Mostly these days I wear floor length skirts, so I only need anklets, white or black. However, if I wear a skirt as short as knee length then it is stockings and garter belt. They are amazingly comfortable, and do not give me clautrophobia like pantyhose.
