An Open Letter to Anita Bryant

Well worth reading.

Here's Anita Bryant: Anita Bryant's bio on Wikipedia

Note: The article mentions that Florida's ban on Gay and Lesbian adoptions was overturned by the State Supreme Court, but doesn't mention that the State appealed from the ruling and the struggle continues.

Like the poor, the hateful we have always with us.

Ok, that was really hard to read...

I'm glad that she has reconnected with her family and things are all hunky-dory for her now, but I feel as though we T-people are almost exactly where she was 31 years ago.

I have seen progress in the past couple of decades, but honestly, not much. Unlike the author, I can't find it in myself to forgive Anita or the hatemongers who used her.

I can't even forgive my own parents.

I can dismiss it, as in, "That's the past, and you can't change what happened then." I can reject the hatred they tried to teach me.

Those things I can do, but honestly, forgiveness is not in my heart, not for that, ever.

The people who wish horrible things on me, I wish the same upon them.

I suppose the "An eye for an eye" part stuck...

I know, I know, as a good atheist/sorta buddhist/humanist type person(and that is about the loosest description I could come up with) I should be better than that, I should rise above my anger.

Sorry, not happening, at least not anytime soon.
