Seriously. It's designed to sell you updates and the way it does that is tons and tons of false positives to keep you nervous and afraid so you buy the updates. McAfee is the same way. It's the old F.U.D. tactic.

Uninstall Norton and get Free AVG. Free AVG is paid for by corporations who subsidize free anti-malware software for everyone else to cut down on spam and viruses and malware in general and reduce the threat to their corporate machines. It works, updates are free. They will try to sell you their PREMIUM version which simply adds some anti-phishing and identity protection bells and whistles, but they don't push this with false positives.

Either that or do what I did after years and years of dealing with the PC world of malware and evil corporations. I bought a Mac. Now I only have to deal with one evil corporation. :)
