"Your Tax Dollars at Work" to Get My Tax Dollars.

Apparently the IRS is under the impression we owe over twelve thousand dollars in back taxes, so we've got to go to their local office on Tuesday and figure out what's going on. Sad to say, but the federal government apparently trumps any NJ State laws. And of course, legal help will be assisting us at this point, since I haven't worked full time in five years, and I haven't made that much money combined in that time, much less in one calendar year. Go figure! Thanks for your prayers and support. Andrea

Tax!

shiraz's picture

The wonderful UK tax people (then called the Inland Revenue) said I owed £8,000 in penalties and interest.

I went to the local office and filled in a few forms, and a few more. I ended up paying £12.13. Go figure! As I'm not working (disability) I'm now zero rated for tax.

Here in Alabama, there is a law firm dedicated to tax laws and stopping the I.fernal R.evenue S.ervice from taking your wages. Hope there's such a law firm where you are.

Did you let it slide or something?

I got in $12,000 dollars worth of trubble with the IRS, but they let me make payments for a while. Were you ignoring their letters? Maybe they'll let you make payments?

I finally got back pay to settle with them, what a blessing.

Much Peace

IRS

The IRS does not now even have to notify you they are doing it under the current new credit laws. If you get food stamps or unemployment they will even garnish them. I work for a welfare agency and used to work on the systems where they did this. Unlike the standard criminal justice system the tax courts are different because you are presumed guilty until proven innocent. It has its own judges even. Even if you do not earn anything always file your taxes or you will become a nice target for them.

It is a long road ahead but I will finally become who I should be.

Be careful and good luck

Just a little bit of advice from someone that's been there. Don't hire a tax attorney, all they'll do is burn money that you could use to pay the government and the results will be the same. Be sure your wife's or your social security number hasn't been used by an illegal hence undocumented income. The sad part of all this is that your tax burden is probably half of what they want, the rest are penalties. When I say I've been there the attorney I hired billed me for thirty thousand dollars which I rejected. I had told her to get another IRS agent, which she didn't. Long story short, I refinanced my home, pulling everybit of equity out to satisfy the debt to the IRS. Can we say goodbye retirement? You're too nice of a person to have to put up with this nonsense, Arecee
