Like I said, no worse than anybody else, but it hurts.
We just found out that for the second consecutive pay period, some entity has garnished my wife's wages to the tune of $1300, and we're late with the rent. It is seriously putting my in-law's mortgage in jeopardy. Please pray for some resource to come available because we were counting on it for May's rent. I haven't been able to work, but a positive thing is that Mrs. D was able to encourage me that we've done what we can; that I have done as much as I can.
It hurts me to no end to think that I've failed my family, and that I've spent so much time seeking to do whatever I could with no success. I know I'm not a failure, but old habits die hard when you have to fight these ghosts from the past. I'm sorry for being so negative right now; it has been so much a part of my past and I wanted so much to be beyond that, but it seems that I'm right in the middle of the crucible again. Please pray for us and for my in-laws if you do pray? I'm so tired and a long year seems to have gotten a bit longer once again. Thanks. Andrea

You know that both you and Mrs. D get my prayers (Mishaberach) so I hope that helps. But, while we both agree that prayer helps and G-d does listen to prayers, perhaps (and I know from comments that people on this site hate attorney's) it is time to call in a lawyer. Perhaps legal aid or some other entity. There are many defenses to wage garnishment and ways to try an prevent it. Most of those laws differ from state to state so you need to consult with a N.J. attornney. You need to call as soon as possible.
You need to explain to the lawyer all of your families financial situation, as well as medical situation.

the gist of it: 10% gross 25% of disposal earnings whichever is less but no execution on gross wages of $154.50 or less a week (Source: 15 USC, 1671 et seq,: 29 C. F. R., 5870; N.J.S.A. 2A: 17-50). 2A:17-56. Limitation on amount specified in execution.
2A:17-56. a. In no case shall the amount specified in an execution issued out of any court against the wages, debts, earnings, salary, income from trust funds or profits due and owing, or which may thereafter become due and owing to a judgment debtor, exceed 10%, unless the income of such debtor shall exceed 250 % of the poverty level for an individual taking into account the size of the individual's family, in which case the court out of which the execution shall issue may order a larger percentage.
b. Notwithstanding subsection a. or any other law to the contrary, for all wage execution applications filed by the State pursuant to subsection b. of N.J.S.2A:17-50 after the effective date of P.L.2005, c.124 (C.2A:16-11.1 et al.), the State may seek a wage execution of up to 25% of the debtor's gross earnings, provided that after the execution the debtor's income will not be less than 250 % of the poverty level for an individual taking into account the size of the individual's family.
Nothing in this subsection shall be construed to violate any provision of federal law.

A $1,500.00 wage garnishment is way out of line.

I'm in serious
agreement, from what little I know about you situation with everything going on $1500 is way harsh and you need a legal aid lawyer. I'm of the mind that any reasonable judge will see the amount as not just punitive but greedy or borderline financially abusive.
Hey does anyone know if there's such a thing as financial assault? I mean stuff like this can and does ruin lives. It'd be nice to be able to charge ass hats like these with depraved indifference to human life or some such.
In any event I'm adding my prayers to those who are pulling for you.
