There have been some blogs lately about wanting comments to stick to the story, rather than meandering off on specific aspects of it or whatever. Which is fine by me if that's what the author wants. Comments on my stories have often devolved into jokes and general playing around. I just thought I'd make it clear here that not only am I okay with that, I encourage it! I often get in on it myself, especially when I'm in a mood. ;) So by all means, have fun!
That's not to say that I don't like regular comments on the story, though, even if they are (constructively) critical. I love feedback, of just about all kinds. That's one of the reasons I don't have my stories finished before I post them, I like to get the feedback as I go along. That often changes the direction the story would have taken (for the better, I think). And I've gotten some great ideas from comments, particularly from Laika (Thanks again Laika!).
So, basically, so long as you're not attacking me (or someone else), I'm good with all comments. The more the merrier!

Topic drift!
As far as I see it, almost any thread could potentially result in topic drift. However, if the original post contains controversy (such as once when Angharad made a throwaway comment about police response time in one episode of Bike), the topic drift is likely to focus on the controversial element and potentially spawn a vigorous debate (e.g. on gun control), which unfortunately can devolve into a flamewar (and in extreme cases, cause Erin to pull the comments for a few days).
However, more often than not, it's a result of something lighthearted in the original post, topic drift can be very fun and entertaining. Heck, we even tried starting a game of Dingbats in the comments on the latest Bike!

Interesting way of looking at it

This is an interesting way of looking at posting a story. I've been obsessively working for.. two, three weeks now? I've honestly lost track, trying to get everything just right. I think on my next project I might just shoot from the hip and see what happens.
As far as commentary, I've tried to keep my mouth shut and my head down on that debate, but I'll tentatively agree here, in that if someone likes or doesn't like something I've written, they're welcome to speak up, or come to me in private (That goes for blog posts and my future writing endeavors). I can't say one way or another to what others prefer, but as for myself, as long as it's not against the site rules, it's all good in the hood. :-D
Edit: Oh, right, and that applies to topic drift as well. I was distracted by chocolate (Someone flung a craving on me ;-))

Mmmm, chocolate...
Can you believe my sister laughed at me when I told her I needed chocolate the other day? We were working on cleaning up my grandmother's house and I wasn't feeling very well. Sometimes when I'm not feeling well I get a craving for something and I just know if I eat whatever it is I'll feel better. She stopped laughing when I was suddenly feeling much better ten or fifteen minutes after my Dad brought me a Kit Kat! ;) Seriously, it works! Sometimes it's beef, sometimes it's milk, and other times it's chocolate (Might have been a few other things, too, but I don't remember).
The only problem with that is I am mildly lactose intolerant and have various food allergies and stomach issues, so I have to be careful what form whatever it is takes. Fortunately, the craving usually comes with enough information to know the right kind of thing to get. I know, I'm weird! :)

Eck. Food allergies would be my undoing. I have enough trouble eating healthy as it is. ;-)
Sometimes I think our bodies crave certain foods on a subconscious level, as a known source of something we're lacking. Not sure what chocolate would have though, but I do know I always feel better after a couple of M&Ms :-D

Food allergies
Yeah, they suck. But, they've actually helped me to eat healthier, believe it or not! I'm allergic to a lot of artificial ingredients, preservatives, corn syrup, oils, and so on. So fried foods and a lot of junk food are right out. Down side, I'm also allergic to soy and nuts! :( I can tolerate a little teriyaki sauce here and there (Has soy sauce in it), but otherwise I'm out of luck. And nuts are worse! I so miss those peanut butter filled chocolate eggs at Easter time... But just one of those might just kill me, now.
Peanut butter is just a thing of the past... Well, mostly. I've found that sesame seed butter or sunflower seed butter taste the same as peanut butter (other than a slight after taste). ^_^
