I was married to my girlfriend on Friday, which was our one year anniversary.

Since I live in Texas, we had to drive out to Santa Fe, NM. We stayed at the Lodge of Santa Fe which had nice rooms and was located near where we had to go to get everyting done.

First thing Friday morning, we went to the county clerk's office to get our marriage license. $25 cash was well worth it. Next we drove out to the Magistrate court to put ourselves in the queue for the ceremonies that afternoon. Once we were done there we headed back to the hotel to change into nicer clothes and pack.

While checing out, we were told by the clerk that this summer the hotel was going to offer free weddings in their chapel for same sex couples. That sounds really nice.

Once checked out, we went to find a bookstore. Sadly, we could not find a good general one. Most specialized in local area books, and just the top sellers. Still, the coffee shop was a nice place to wait for a while.

Finally we arrived at 3pm for the ceremony. We had been told that marriages start after 3p. That is actually true, but they schedule a docket at 3pm and when that is over the marriages start. We were fouth in line so our ceremony was approx. at 4pm.

From there, back to the county clerk's office to register the marriage, and get certified copies. $2.50 / copy was also not so bad. And we were done.

The county clerk was very sweet and excited for us. And the judge was also very nice, and seemed to enjoy marrying us.

Of note, all six couples who were married by the judge were same sex couples.

And now, the true adventure begins.
