Well, the last couple of days have brought some bad news, but also some good news, so here is an update:

1: My friends who were going to have a renewal of their vows ceremony had to cancel due to ill health of one of the lovely ladies involved. While I'm disappointed there will be no ceremony, I'm more worried for her health ..

2: The night before last I was talking to a male co-worker who started coughing, so being the smart-aleck I am I said, "Don't die", and he must have taken me seriously, because he said, "I won't die", and tried to give me a comforting pat on the shoulder.

I flinched.

I froze like I was expecting him to hit me, hurt me.

Needless to say, I was rather upset at myself for doing that ...

And finally, the good news:

I am now officially a maintenance worker at work, giving me a forty cent per hour raise, doing a job that's probably not as challenging physically.
