Had an interesting conversation with my store's HR person last night, and she mentioned that when it was announced I was coming to the store, a few people came to her unsure how to address me as my trans status was known to them. She said "Well, her name is Dorothy. How would you address someone named Dorothy?"
The person said they should use female pronouns.
The HR lady said, "then do that for this Dorothy. If there's a problem, I'm sure she'll say something."
Gee, when you put it like that, it sounds so easy ....

I honestly get tired of being an "Abigail" referred to with male pronouns. If I wanted to be called a dude I'd've never changed my name idjits!
I have noticed that lately fewer and fewer strangers are having problems with using the right pronouns. It's only the idiots that knew me earlier in transition or even before.

One would think if a person were transitioning its because they wanted to be considered female. That's simple logic to me. Unfortunately, bigotry and narrow-mindedness seldom make things simple or easy.

Some languages only have 1 word to express he/she/it. I bring this up because at work I have a coworker on my team who speaks English as a second language and sometimes calls other people on my team opposite gender pronouns. Its especially difficult with me as I have come out at work recently. She is trying however which is nice.

It doesn't matter how you address a Dorothy the post office won't accept the package.

I thought you were asking how one shortens the name Dorothy. I was going to write that in the UK, Dorothy is usually shortened to 'Dot'.
Does this perhaps demonstrate how far down the road you've come when I explain that the issue of 'pronoun gender' hadn't even entered my mind until you mentioned it in your following blog.
Of course this is approached from my standpoint from across the pond so I do not know first-hand what sort of precise issues might be up for discussion in your personal circumstances.
Still it's lovely to read that your company's HR rep has the wit and understanding to deal with it properly.
