I have been working on a story for me that is in a very different voice, and feels very different than anything I have ever written. It is action, funk and gore, Sci Fi and lots of other devices that I have never used. I am just a little concerned that where I take the end will offend some of you. It is not intended. I am an American Citizen, a Veteran, and very loyal to the US.

I thought I had it finished a couple weeks ago, but then my muse drug me off to Worcester for a month. GAH ! My protag really needed shopping therapy! LOL My research has been exausting

If anyone thinks I should not publish it. Please say so now.

Publish it

It's your story, and if you like what you wrote then It doesn't mater what anyone else thinks. I think all that's bothering you is the rotten weather all of us on the westcoast have been having all winter. Just give me a few days of sunshine, Arecee

Story

No doubt you will offend someone. This is the nature of writing. Please publish. Who can judge anything if you don't

You must publish!

You cannot possibly know if your story is good enough unless you let it see the light of day.

It's good that you have chosen to write something different. Only by pushing the boundaries of what you feel comfortable with can you progress. If you subsequently decide (read: we subsequently decide) that the story isn't good enough, then fair enough, you can leave it and either go back to something more familiar or strike off in a different direction.

But to spend all that time, emotional and intellectual energy and then to not publish it, well...

As for writing something that might upset people, it's called fiction for a reason. Most of the stories at BCTS are going to offend someone, guaranteed. (Fortunately, most of them don't know about BCTS.)

Publish, Gwen. You know you're a comment-tart just like the rest of us.

“Publish and Be Damned”…

…as Arthur Wellesley, the Duke of Wellington, told the courtesan Harriette Wilson threatened to publish her memoirs and his letters.

Who knows until its published

From what you wrote, I guess it's the contnet of the story and not the change in writing style that concerns you.

Until you publish it, and receive comments or PM's you will never know if your fears are justified.

So unless negative and perhaps hostile comments would be devastating to you in some manner (serious type reaction) then publish it.

Controversial stories

Thank you all for the help in making my decision. It is going to be a controversial story. There are no typical Americans, Afghanis, Brits, or Muslims. Anyone who has ever been to Chucki Cheeses, and played the game where you bonk the heads back into the table ... yes this story has lots of heads that keep popping up, but I hope to get it out this week.

please publish

trying new things is always a good idea for an author, and for a reader too. maybe some wont like it, but thats their problem.
