I have been using MSWord (on windows PCs) for at least 30 years, and I have never had a problem copying text from the internet and pasting it into a word document. I have copied story chapters from BCTS frequently without any problem.

If you have an Apple computer, the exact commands may differ from the ones I will describe below. I have never used an apple computer, so I don't know which key strokes achieve the same results as the ones on a windows PC.

So, if you have a windows PC, try this:

1) Open your internet browser and navigate to the text you want to copy, then open MS Word on your PC and create a new, blank document. Then go back to the browser window.

2) Select the text you want to copy, by either: a) clicking and holding in front of the first word you want to select and dragging your mouse over the text to where you want to stop selecting, and then release the 'click', or b) if you want to select the entire web page, click once somewhere on the web page to make the browser 'active' then using only the keyboard, hold down the control button and tap the letter "a".

3) Having selected some text, hold down the control button and tap on the letter c. This copies the selected text onto the "clipboard" on your PC.

4) Move your mouse off of your browser, and onto the blank page in MS Word, then click once on the blank area. This makes MS Word "active".

5) Using only the keyboard, hold down the control button and tap on the letter "v". The selected text from the browser, that was temporarily stored on the clipboard, should now appear as text on the MS word page.

Note that you have to do steps 2, 3, 4 and 5 one after another, without any interruptions. If you decide to check the weather using your PC, or to send an email, or anything else, in between steps 2-3-4-5, then the text that you selected and copied to the clipboard may be lost.

Assuming that the copy and paste worked for you, changing the font is done entirely in MS word, and only affects the MS word copy, not the original on the internet. You could even close your internet browser if you want to.

To change the font, select the text you want to change in MS Word by clicking and dragging, or by using Control+a. Then, move the mouse pointer over some selected text and 'Right click' with the mouse. You should get a pop-up menu, with various options. Click on the 'font' option. You get another pop up menu that will show you the list of available fonts on your PC, and allow you to change the font, the font size, to specify italics or bold, etc. When you have chosen the options you want, click on OK.

You're now done.

Don't forget to save your MS Word document when you are finished, or you will have to do it all over tomorrow when you want to continue reading.
