I saw this poem and soon realised it applies to most if not Veterans
He is an armchair critic
Who likes to watch the news.
Staring at his old TV,
He mumbles as he views,
And when the politicians speak,
He almost blows a fuse!
He disagrees with everything,
Or so it seems these days.
He doesn't like the news anchor
Or half of what she says.
It seems to him the world's gone mad
In oh so many ways.
He sits there in his old armchair
With no one else around.
He seldom turns the TV off.
He needs that constant sound.
It drives the loneliness away.
That's one thing he's found.
He's an old forgotten soldier,
A hero from the war.
He seldom speaks about those days,
The horrors that he saw.
He sometimes sits and ponders
And asks, "What was it for?"

a nice poem
but I did find the flow was a bit broken in places, drop in another word and the cadence improves for example:
'He sits there in his old armchair
With no one else around.
He seldom turns the TV off.
He needs that constant sound.
It drives the loneliness away.
That's one thing he's found.'
if you make the last line ' That's one thing that he's found.' it flows much better.
That of course, is me being an Armchair critic!

Actually...
"That's one thing he has found" would be better; it avoids putting "that" in the line twice.
Nothing like an armchair critic of an armchair critic of a poem that wasn't even the poster's in the first place.

I posted this poem to make a point'
Ask any Veteran today why he joined and does he feel betrayed, as a Veteran from campaigns I was in the last line says it all, "What was the point ?" I know Veterans from various countries armed forces and still chat from time to time with then. Ask them one question " Do they feel betrayed ?" and 90% will answer " Yes" mainly by politicians who always fail our Service people. We Enlist and do our duty hoping for a better life for the people of our various nations first, and everyone else after that, are we prepared to give everything even our lives, Yes we would in the hope to end wars, but the politicians seem to go out of they're way to find another war and at the end of the day when we retire or are discharge at the end of our enlistments we see things haven't got any better.
In the UK there are thousands of veterans that are living on the streets living hand to mouth not able to find employment, theres not a lot job openings for a anti-tank gunner or mortar man.
