3 weeks unpaid, but we can sign up for unemployment. I asked if I could use vacation for it as I have around 7 weeks owed to me, but was shot down.

Wow that sucks that they refused the use of vacation. :( In California that might be illegal, dunno about other states though. I just know that CA has some strict laws regarding vacation time on the books owed to the employees.

Unemployment vs Vacation
It costs less to pay for unemployment than for vacation. UE is partial pay, shared with the government; vacation is full pay, payed (entirely) by the employer.

The point is that it's your vacation that they'd have to pay you for -anyway-, telling you that you can't take it sounds... vaguely illegal, depending on the state/country.

It's not as bad as it sounds
That is if all the information we were given is correct. Apparently UE pays 60% of your normal wage, and the federal government is supposed to be handing out monies that should compensate for a huge part of the deficiency.

My muse is in full flow at the moment. On Sun, Mon, Tues I wrote almost 18,000 words. I even know how the tale will end which is really unusual for me. It isn't a TG story but a full on romance between two older people. Sometimes your muse takes you in unexpected directions.

Only three weeks?
I'm a school bus driver. I've been out since the 14th of March and I'll be out until the 28th of April... that is if they don't extend it again. Originally it was supposed to be from the 14th of March to the 1st of April, but day before yesterday, they extended it to the 28th.
Since school bus driving is only part time, no unemployment.

She wouldn't have time to write
If the gov hadn't been shutting down people gathering for concerts, or other events, she still wouldn't have time to write. The girl is a multi talented musician and has played with some well known names. She also has a daughter who is a chip off the old block and is just as talented as her mother.
Must be nice to have so many in the same family with the same musical gifts. I'm insanely jealous! I tried to get Nuuan to adopt me to see if some of that would rub off on me by osmosis but the ....um refused.

Latest news on being furloughed
Looks like I'm not going to be on furlough after all. The powers that be have decided that at least part of our IT department must be available to help users that are working remotely, therefore I'll be working remotely answering emails and taking calls.

The most annoying and humerous part is...
I volunteered to use vacation time for it to begin with as I was told I need to use some up before Jun1 or I lose it. And was told that no our department would not be furloughed.
Everyone was whimpering about not getting the time off, (with the expectation of it being paid time off of course) My foretelling of it would not be paid time off fell on deaf ears.
So then word of Furlough came along and now everyone was crying, I think most had filed for UE before they left Tuesday afternoon and told not to come back until they received further word. I found that a bit funny :) I decided to wait until after the official word came down on Thursday, then wait till Friday (the last paid day) to file for UE.
I was cool with it all, was even looking very close at my finances to see if a trip down to Atlanta (approx 900 miles) was doable, with a possible stop in Nashville to drop my 1922 B&D 5 string super banjo off a Gruhn, to have it authenticated and restored.
But Thursday afternoon we got word that we would go in Monday morning and pick up whatever we needed to work from home.
The thing is, once we do go back to work I'll end up having to take a couple weeks vacation to use before Jun 1

Forgot to mention
I do have a opaque shower curtain on 2 day delivery from Amazon, it has the graphics of a set of french doors opening out on to a beach. I figure I can make a quick frame to stretch it out on, then backlight it behind my computer chair so it appears i'm sitting on some beach somewhere :)

That is not at all likely to happen as the current conditions are expected to prevail into mid summer and that means hat they will have to keep your vacation time on the books or pay it to in cash. the only alternative to that is to let you use the vacation time before then.

Agreed. Most states have 'emergency' clauses that block evictions, and add extensions to normally expiring events, such as vacation, and so forth.
