I got a phone call from a SRS doctor in California that my gender doc sent my info to regarding me possibly getting surgery. But after talking with her, it turns out I'm about 100 lbs too heavy for her to work on me.

Honestly, I wish I could know if I have even a chance before i fly down to Arizona for a consult, as right now I am discouraged and down.

Ah, well.

Call Dr Meltzer's office and have a frank discussion

... before you make the trip down.

When you first announced your consult with Meltzer I added a comment concerning the possibility that weight is an issue. It is a well known one in the M->F community. Sadly it is a valid one as excess weight does impede healing as well as making it harder to work in that region. I am sorry that you are disappointed but if you seriously want to reach your goal you need to have a checklist put together as to what you need to do and a means to fulfill those steps. It all depends on how motivated you are in getting it done. There are a lot of reasons that are beyond our control in getting there but I don't think weight should be one.

It is all too easy for me to say 'there there, it'll be all right' and offer palliative comments but that will not necessarily help get you there.

This was already a known issue to you. In fact, I remember a year or so ago that you blogged saying that the doctor had told you that you needed to lose weight in order to have surgery and you saying something to the effect that losing weight would prove that you were serious about seeing GRS all the way through.

I highly suggest that you look into Body For Life by Phillips. It is a good program, it is the one that got me to my lowest weight ever. It isn't a fad diet, but a well reasoned eating and workout strategy. It isn't difficult, and it is something a person can stick to (as long as they don't lose all the weight and then take a job delivering pizza).
