has arrived!
And it's arrived with typical British August weather!
Thursday, the last day of July, was no better, i set off for my ride, some wibbling around the lanes south of Bath, with a forecast suggesting wet, windy, sunny and warm! The first leg was out through the tunnels from the Avon valley, the longer tunnel supplying yet another weather type, filled as it was with a fairly dense mist - there's no escape from the weather even inside of the hills. On the plus side, the weather outside remained dry, fairly bright and a nice temperature for riding.
I made it to my lunch stop at Stoney Littleton Long Barrow, where, after crawling inside to give my respects to the ancestors, i consumed my sandwiches. My route continued via grass covered bridleway and single track lane into the lanes north of Frome before a lumpy loop which took me back towards the Avon valley. Instead of the busy A36 i elected to take a more rural route, another bridleway, so steep in places i got off as i was in fear of overbalancing forwards, think at least 30% on a very uneven/stony surface.
Eventually i rejoined tarmac for a long drag up into south Bath only to drop all too soon down into the city centre. Twenty K later i stopped the clock just over 91km recorded with a climb rate of over 10m/km for the day. Not only that, but it actually remained almost dry, although there was evidence that wetness had befallen some on the Bath/Bristol corridor not long before my transit.
Friday was another unsettled day but again it remained dry and even hot at times after some early dampness - a fairly typical Yorkshire Day. Saturday was about the same, i stayed dry on my walk having decided to not ride as Sunday, today, was bun day.
The forecast for today was dismal, 80% chance of rain and a fairly stiff westerly wind to boot. But i was resolved to go, pretty much whatever, the ladies deserve our support, monies raised go to charity and its a win win as money is raised and cake is consumed! I set off prepared to get wet but in the end its remained dry all day although the wind has been a bit stronger than i'd like, but overall i consider it a win. A fairly flat ride, a measly 71km covered but enough given the weather.
Aunty Bev treated us to some steak for Sunday dinner which is why i'm posting later than i'd expected - food needed to be prepared and cooked even after the bun fest. Of course, i have uploaded the next Gaby chapter, Nine for your delectation and delight. I've also added a few thousand words to the new story over on Patreon, i'll be knuckling down on that project again tomorrow - i hope.
That's it for now, i'll be back on Wednesday
Tschuss,
Madeline Anafrid
