with plenty of stuff happening!
Where do i start? Well June is the big metre munching challenge on the bike, 8848m to climb in 30 days but this year it should be easier to accomplish as in a fortnight i head up to Yorkshire for my 'bike' holiday. I'm sort of looking forward to it with mixed feelings, camping and riding the 400+km north then a week in North Yorkshire before starting the return with a stop in Sheffield - i've not even started to think about the return trip yet!
It's been nearly 5 years since my last big bike camping trip, to Sweden, somehow this trip on English roads feels more daunting, I think i've got all my gear sorted, a bit more food to keep the cost down of course. Pretty much all that's left is a dry run with the tent to make sure its okay still and probably next weekend, service the bike and set it up for the trip. I will of course be seeing my kids and the rest of the family whilst i'm in the North. My interweb access will be pretty patchy so don't be concerned if i'm off radar for a week or so.
So what's been happening since Wednesday? Well my new bank card turned up on Thursday so it was with some relief that i headed out to get some food in, such simple things.
Friday i headed out on the bike, a variation of my regular Chippenham loop for a burger lunch then some bridleways on the return which saw me riding up the Badminton airstrip after i missed a turn! A nice day if a bit breezy, 100+km but only about 500m of up.
Then on Saturday i had planned on a longer walk but i ended up just getting some lunch, liver & bacon, then doing some more food shopping
Today is of course the first Sunday of the month which means its the Hill cake fest! The day promised mid 20's with a lighter wind than of late, perfect for such an enterprise. At least 200 cyclists converged on the tiny village hall for tea and cake, they were still queueing when i departed 45 minutes after joining the queue myself! I'd done a bit of trail exploring before getting there, i did more after scarfing down my tea and confectionary on the way to another low metre count across the 80km/50 mile ride.
Since my return i've cooked Sunday 'lunch' and of course posted the next Gaby chapter, Girlfriend Therapy.
