Since there are so many comments I'll leave this message in place. As of about 3:30 PM EDT the power has been restored and all of the critical servers are back in operation. One of the general use systems that runs my lightning detection system is having problems but it isn't as critical as the other servers were.
Bob Arnold
Bob tells me that power is out due to lines brought down by winds in his area of central New York. May be back up today but more winds and storms expected, so it could be a while. Bob will remove this notice when the power comes back up. He's fine.

Erin

Lousy weather
Glad to here Bob is OK. He sure has a lot of crummy weather in his part of the world!

Explains things...
...like the prolonged strong winds we've been experiencing in the 'Finger Lakes' region of upstate NY during the night (with heavy rain) and all day - so far.
However, power's still ok here.

Thanks for the heads up,
I am guessing this is why Crystal Hall is down, too. Tell Bob to keep his head down and take care /hugs

Crystal Hall and BCSD Chat, too
I forgot. Those are on Bob's servers, too. Something else but I can't think what. :)

What was that saying?
"A mind is a terrible thing," or something like that. Or was it, "Of all the things I miss, I miss my mind the most?"

ps Where are the other grammar police when I need them? Does the question mark go inside the quotes or outside? If it were an attributed query, it would be on the inside, as in "Damn it Jim, what do I look like, some miracle worker?" said Dr McCoy or would it be on the outside due to it not being an attributable query and with the quote not being a query in itself? so many questions...
Grammar Police
In the US, periods and commas always go inside the quotes, regardless of the logic. The rule is more slippery in the case of other punctuation but in formal writing, like dissertations, the same rule applies. In less formal writing, like for popular press, logic can be used to justify putting some punctuation outside the quotes. Online grammar rules are in flux in the US and sometimes British logic trumps American standards.
In the UK, logic generally wins in this usage with no fast rules that can't be violated in some circumstances. Same for most other English speaking countries. But UK newspapers, other than the Times, are particularly sloppy about applying logic on this usage. Sometimes, they seem to be following the reverse of the US rule, putting the punctuation outside the quotes regardless of reason or usage.
In Canada, the US rule can be followed without comment, even when it is illogical. The US rule can also be ignored without comment. Canadian practicality seems to be an unspoken reason for doing it one way or the other, except in Quebec which, of course, has its own domain of grammar and punctuation.

I always thought
if the quote was a question, the question mark went inside the quotes. If the quote was a part of an interogatory sentence the punctuation went outside the quotation marks. But its been way too long since I took that class, for sure.
Oh, yeah
Sounds like what we had the last couple of days. Late Tuesday night/Wednesday morning downburst winds took out 30 or so powerpoles in Okla. City, as well as caused numerous accidents when cars and semis were blown off the roads. Wind speed over 75 miles per hour were recorded in storms last night further north.
It's not springtime without a few showers.
They know they can survive
I talked to Bob as well
Latest update is power will be restored out there around 4:30 pm. Crystal Hall is down as well. Bob said winds hit 80 mph.
Here in lovely
downtown Greenfield, ouside Indianapolis, we had 75 mph gusts last night. Lots of trees and lines down. Got over an inch of rain on top of all the other rain, and they were calling for another inch tonight and more through the weekend, last I heard.
Back up Power or Better ******* come visit the fair
Now is the time to put in a plug for one of my other favorite sites. www.homepower.com
New York and the North East are infamous for the power problems caused by weather, When I lived just a mile from the Conowingo Dam I would lose power every T-storm.
For those of you living in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, and Illinois I would like to invite you the this year's renewable energy fair 10 miles east of Stevens Point Wisconsin on the three days of June 19th to the 21st. Here is the link for the fair: http://www.the-mrea.org/energy_fair.php
