Griff and I have been having weekly meetings about cartooning lately. These have been a major help to me in coming out of what now appears to have been a several year long depression. I still miss Jeanne but I'm beginning to take an interest in doing the things I like again. Griff and my other local friends, as well as all of you online here at BC and elsewhere on the net are part of the reason.
But about the cartoonist meetings, Griff has actually put a few cartoons up this month, mostly ones we wrote back in August. We've got several weeks worth of strips written and some even drawn but they aren't netready quite yet and Griff is deep in midterms now. And we've discussed other strip ideas, one being a Monty Python/Douglas Adams/Terry Pratchett inspired time travel loony titled "Not in the Brochure". FWAF is a college humor strip about an FtM TS and his friends, definitely a niche market. Brochure would be about a time traveling alien planning to visit ancient Palestine who lands in present day Southern California. :) This one would be aimed at a wider net audience.
The other idea is "Alastair to Zook" about a worrywart turtle and his free-spirited froggy friend.
Alastair: We're all doomed! The whole world is going to Hell!
Zook: Ice cream tastes really good in hot weather.
Alastair: Do you even listen to me? I'm saying the world is doomed! Don't you care about anything?
Zook: Sprinkles.
This one is actually aimed at possible newspaper syndication, though we may have heart attacks if it achieves it. :0
I think there is a little Alastair and a little Zook in all of us. Not literally, that would make for queasy stomachs. :) I used to call Jeanne "Turtle" on some occasions when she seemed reluctant to leave the house. But I know I need to remember to listen to Zook who knows how to have fun.

I'm glad to hear you're beginning to emerge from that groggy place where the world seems disoriented and out of place because a big chunk of your personal reality is missing. It took me a lot longer after my life-partner died several years ago.

Yes, it does take a while for that hole in the sky to shrink and cast less of a shadow. It helps to get out, spend time with friends, enjoy music, and find humor wherever you can.

Getting Back Together
Dear Joyce and Amelia,... The second anniversary of the passing of my other half , the much loved Carolynne Dale , is approaching. Please accept my heartfelt feelings for both of you for your own losses. I know how difficult it is to put colour back into my life. I sincerely hope that both of you are finding some colour gradually reappearing.

Life goes on. Last weekend was Jeanne's birthday and in her honor all of our friends had a small get together. We ate some of her favorite foods and read some of her favorite poems and we talked about what she had meant to us. It really helped.

Like Joyce, I find comfort in remembering with friends. My Diana and I were always involved with folk music; I still am. At a recent sing, we all joined in one of Diana's favorites, "Julian of Norwich" by Sydney Carter (best known for "Lord of the Dance"). It always brings tears, but they are tears of joy, renewal, and comfort. The lyrics are below; I wish you could hear the tune.

Joyce Dear , What a coincidense ! My beloved Carolynne Dale's birthday would have been on 13th May. A few friends and I gathered to remember her. Amelia , what lovely words. I do not know the song but will now have to find it. Loss shared is a lttle lessened.
