I have really been trying not to post anything political on this site over the past several months. As much as I sometimes need to vent and I feel that a topic may interest those who read here, I also understand that many may not feel it is appropriate. But today I can’t help but so so.
I was reading an article in my local newspaper - yes, I still get a daily paper (real paper even, lol) which I read in it’s entirety every day. I find it a wonderful source for local and state news, and I also find the editorials and letter to the editor give me a feel for the temperature of the people that the internet, radio, and television simply cannot. Not to mention the joy I once took from simply sitting and reading the news; a joy I seldom find from the act anymore.
Anyway, the article in question detailed how Laura Loomer (the right wing lunatic) posted pictures on X of multiple Palestinian children arriving in both San Francisco, CA, and in Houston, TX, for medical treatment with the assistance of an organization called HEAL Palestine. These children were afforded temporary medical-humaitarian visas to enter the U.S. so that they could receive emergency medical treatment.
Loomer posted, “Despite the US saying that we are not accepting Palestinian ‘refugees’ into the United States under the Trump administration, these people from Gaza were able to travel to the US.” She called it, “a national security threat” and asked who signed off on the visas, calling for that person to be fired.
A day after she posted her rant, the US State Department stopped issuing these visas, stating they would be stopped while it looks into how “a small number of temporary medical-humanitarian visas” were issued in recent days. Donald Trump has downplayed Loomer’s influence on his administration, but it sure seems to me that someone in Washington D.C. is listening to this lunatic!
Seriously? Children being brought into the US to receive medical care they cannot receive in Gaza - medical care most likely due to Israeli military actions on civilians, are a “national security threat”? And just how do they threaten our national security? By requiring medical attention? By being Arabic? By not being white?
Just how have we fallen so far that this ignorant, prejudiced, insane bitch can dictate policy to the US Government simply by posting her ridiculous rant online? How is it that a country created by a people subjected to pogroms for centuries, and nearly wiped out by the Nazis in WWII, can allow their government to perpetrate genocide as they are doing? And how is it that those of us in this country can sit idly by and pretend it isn’t happening?
I am embarrassed not just to be an American at this time, but moreso to acknowledge that I am even the same species as these people.

No Limit To Humanity's Depravity
It doesn't help to see and experience in first person the evil, the insanity, the illogical thinking, others justify in their own mind. Could others use young kids needing medical support as a way to get into the U.S.? Is the idea a valid excuse to not allow them in? No, certainly there are ways of screening out possible terrorists while allowing the young in for their medical needs.
The ability of humans to be unbelievable insane isn't new. They chose to free a common criminal instead of Jesus. I'm fascinated watching intelligence, common sense, morals, ethics, honesty, circle the drain and wondering where humanity will be left?

Nothing new
"During World War II, many European Jews fleeing Nazi persecution were denied asylum in various countries, including the United States, which had a restrictive immigration policy.
The infamous St. Louis incident, where a ship carrying over 900 Jewish refugees was turned away from Cuba and the United States, exemplifies this tragic situation, with many eventually perishing in the Holocaust, according to the Smithsonian Magazine and History.com." This was addressed in Katherina Anne Porter' novel, Ship of Fools. It was adapted and produced as a movie of the same name.
"Allegiance a musical, is inspired by stories from actor George Takei’s life, specifically during World War II when Takei and his family, along with 120,000 Japanese and Japanese-American citizens, were incarcerated in camps within the United States."

I think back on the fact that I proudly served this country…….
That I bled for this country, that I lost people I loved - people that trusted me, that I lost my soul for this country, and I can’t help but wonder why. I once knew why. I knew what this country stood for, and I believed that although we weren’t perfect, that we were at least headed in the right direction. I believed that all we had to do was to keep trying, to keep working, to keep fighting, and that we could make the world a better place.
Now……… well, to borrow a line from a song that means so much to me,
Then I wake up each morning and turn on the news
To find we've so far to go
And I keep on hoping for a sign*
I keep hoping for that sign, but it seems like too many of those signs are pointing in the wrong direction. I can only hope that we, the people, can right our ship before it is too late.
