There's no evidence that he actually said it, but I'm reminded of the Henry Ford Quote, "If I had asked people what they wanted, they would have said faster horses."
In business circles, the (alleged) quote has become a popular saying, used to argue that customers may not know what would delight them and that true innovation comes from thinking beyond what customers ask for.
I'm not familiar with these characters/stories, but I'd argue for faith in your own ideas, rather than having the tail wag the dog.

Mermaid over Drow
While I do enjoy the tales of the Drow twins, I find the tale of Meagan the Mermaid much more enjoyable. And for some reason also more relatable.
