The attitude in Belgium is more relaxed ...
... than in the UK, although I base my observation on one experience. We camped near Antwerp on a tandem ride to Germany to visit my brother and his family who were based there at RAF. Laarbruch, just over the border with the Netherlands. . We went into Antwerp for a meal and were lucky enough to see the sail training ship Malcom Miller in the docks and, as keen sailors ourselves were welcomed aboard. We strolled away, pushing our bicycle made for two and came across a side street with brightly lit windows. Each window held a sexily dressed woman selling wares we weren't interested in buying :) It was all open and above board with no apparent subterfuge at all.
Interestingly (or not) in the restaurant it was necessary to push past the men's urinals in a narrow corridor to get to the cubicles. So sex isn't the only thing Belgians are more relaxed about.
It was a great trip btw even though Easter lived up to its cold, wet, windy, norm.

Whilst the act of taking money for sex is legal there are so many laws around the act that it might as well be!
For example, it is illegal to procure, run a brothel, gain from 'immoral' earnings, kerb crawl and on.
In other european countries its much more facilitated, licensed brothels, earnings taxed etc, you will find sex shops and businesses on German high streets, it is not the highly stigmatised career and pastime that it is in some countries. Of course you still get 'casual' street walkers but they are less prevalent than in the past.
I neither condone nor cast nasturtiums on those following that career path, much like undertakers there will always be a market for their wares regardless of governmental or societal feelings on the matter, it is, afterall, the oldest profession.

Some years ago, now, there was an interesting legal case concerning sex work. I invite you to consider Regina versus Tan and others, 1983.
Under the Sexual Offences Act 1956 "keeping a brothel" was a crime. A "brothel" was interpreted by the courts to mean a premises used for prostitution by two or more women.
So far, so good. Clear as a bell... but Moira Tan was a transwoman, working as a sex worker alongside another woman in the same premises. The prosecution argued that this constituted a brothel.
The defense argued that because Moira Tan was legally recognized as male (this being long before the Gender Recognition Act of 2004), the premises didn't meet the definition of a brothel, as it only had one "female" prostitute (the other woman) and one "male" prostitute (Moira Tan).
The ruling was that for the purposes of the brothel offence, the legal sex of the individuals involved was determined by their sex at birth. Therefore, because Moira Tan was legally a man, the premises did not have the requisite two or more women engaging in prostitution. At appeal, the conviction for keeping a brothel was quashed.
Made me smile when I heard about it. As several notable pieces of English literature have asserted, "the law is an ass."

Briefly Considered Sex Work
Not because I wanted the money but because I was lonely. I ended up getting a visit from a plain clothes police man. Later a man wanted to but fuck me but in the process I disassociated, scaring him enough that he left with out ever doing it.
