You gotta be tough to get old. Weaklings and wimps don't last that long, You know you're getting old when you get together with your friends or sibling and the main topic of discussion is current and/or persistent ailments.

Actually, I knew I was old……..

When I heard one of the Marines in my security team refer to me as “The Old Man.” But what was even worse, was when they started wanting to split up my basic ammo load between them so I didn’t have to carry it. Of course, that first happened because I was limping from getting grazed in the left calf by a round from an AK, so at first I didn’t mind it. It was a few weeks later when I heard one of my Non-Coms telling them to pick up some of “The Old Man’s load” that it really hit me, lol. I wasn’t limping any more, so that excuse wouldn’t work for them any longer.

I've been told that you're only as old as you feel. There are days when I couldn't be a day over 40 and then there are days when I must be on the high side of 100.

I've also been blessed with a youthful appearance, I mentioned to the folks at the bus barn that I was turning 80 and one of the women said she couldn't believe I was that old.

What's interesting is my general health. Everyone in my age bracket that I know is on multiple kinds medications. Aside from my HRT meds, I don't take anything. I was on Atenolol for high blood pressure and was suffering from hyperthyroidism with one node being enlarged to the size of a grapefruit. I had that node removed, leaving the other in place. The node that remains is capable of carrying the load so that all my thyroid hormones are in the normal range. With that done, the high blood pressure went away.

I've never considered myself a sissy, Anyone who takes up the struggle of coming to grips with their transgender nature can't be a sissy. It's an uphill battle to just get yourself to accept yourself and even more of a battle to gain any kind of acceptance from anyone else. A sissy wouldn't have the guts to enter into the fray.

It's when you buy a drop-dead gorgeous dress for an event, and the store's got one of those 24-hour return policies, just in case it doesn't fit right. So, you go to the soiree, dressed to the nines and feeling like Margot Robbie, and the next day, well . . . .

And thank you all for the good wishes. I'm now an octogenarian. I'm beginning to feel a bit like George Burns. He was fond of saying, "At my age I'm just happy to be anywhere."

He also said, "If you live to be one hundred, you've got it made. Very few people die past that age." I'm working on that one. George made it to 100 before he died. If a cigar smoker can do it, so can I.
