Gods, my closet is full of jeans and shorts. Looking for brick and mortar plus size dress shops and some new shoes that are trans friendly getting tired of online buy, try, return, routine, because of bad fit. Clothes are something you need to try on in person. Seems like covid-19 decimated the in-person shopping. in the Midwest area, guess it's Kohls and J C Penny's, sighs Dora

Check your local malls for Layne Bryant. They are TG friendly. I used to shop there all the time. Another bet is Catherine's though they generally have standalone stores in strip malls.
More recently I've shopped and tried on at JC Penneys and Sears. My theory is if I go into a store with the intention of buying something from them they would be well off to treat me with respect and be glad for the sale.
A couple of decades ago, I decided to let it all hang out and push the limit of acceptance. I went to a number of resale shops in full drab. Located something I wanted and asked to try it on. I decided that if they objected to my trying on, then I'd just lay the item on the counter and take my business elsewhere. I was only refused once; that was buy a very young clerk At one upscale shop, I took a couple of items and hung them sideways so I could gather several to try on. As I was hanging the third item the shop owner came to me and asked, "Would you like me to start a room for you?" Needless to say I did and I was back there many time to check for more clothes.
One day I needed to go to Sears after work to pick up some tools that I needed for work. It has long been my habit to wander through such stores in such a way that I at least walk by the women's clothing department. As I did that, I spotted a dress that called my name. I went over to look at it closer and decided I'd like to try it on. Mind you, I was working in the maintenance department of a machine shop and was wearing a uniform. After work, I looked like I had been in close contact with a dirty job. No doubt that I was male bodied.
I took the dress to the check stand and asked if there was any place I could try it on. The lady never even blinked and pointed to the fitting rooms behind her.
These days when I'm out and about I don't hesitate to use the women's restroom when nature calls. I won't buy clothes anywhere I can't try them on.

Yeah ... my car is old enough to vote, and it voted to barf out its starter motor. I was in a Home Depot parking lot, and one of their guys tried really hard, and for free!, but it was a hard no-go. (And thank you Garmin GPS. It doubles as a phone book; it got me a taxi home.)
With no friends close enough, I had to do an exce$$ive amount of 'adulting', real fast. Good news is my bank balance has recovered.

not so dead car
So, besides the inconvenience of getting home at 1:30 a.m. and walking five miles. The car repair was a simple replace the battery and I was back up by ten in the morning. This gave me a chance to shop at the local JC Penny's in the afternoon.
Um, its been a while since doing some retail therapy, being a plus sized woman, selection was limited, and in a small section of the basement. The world is geared more towards the junior's size, their selection was 150 to 300 percent more at penny's. Plus, all the accessories, belts, purses, Prom, and nice evening wear were up in the junior's section.
So, I guess, I'm regulated into a non-trendy size group as well as personal identity group. I managed to a find a few skirts; a cute, pumpkin spice ankle length one, basic mid-calf denim with included tie belt, and an odd but function ankle length denim; which I can only describe as a cross between cargo and carpenter pant. Undergarments were a complete bust; slips were a choice of size zero and preteen. Guess I'll try kohls tomorrow or go back to amazon.
So, it was a success, but the store was a mess; people not caring where they found things and just putting them back anywhere, a limited incoming seasonal selection, a lot of clearance but mostly leftovers from two years ago and sizing was confusing, 1x to 3x and size 16w to 28w all on the same rack, found that the 3x size was a tent size if you had a 60 to 80 inch waist, but somehow managed to look small.
