Check your local malls for Layne Bryant. They are TG friendly. I used to shop there all the time. Another bet is Catherine's though they generally have standalone stores in strip malls.

More recently I've shopped and tried on at JC Penneys and Sears. My theory is if I go into a store with the intention of buying something from them they would be well off to treat me with respect and be glad for the sale.

A couple of decades ago, I decided to let it all hang out and push the limit of acceptance. I went to a number of resale shops in full drab. Located something I wanted and asked to try it on. I decided that if they objected to my trying on, then I'd just lay the item on the counter and take my business elsewhere. I was only refused once; that was buy a very young clerk At one upscale shop, I took a couple of items and hung them sideways so I could gather several to try on. As I was hanging the third item the shop owner came to me and asked, "Would you like me to start a room for you?" Needless to say I did and I was back there many time to check for more clothes.

One day I needed to go to Sears after work to pick up some tools that I needed for work. It has long been my habit to wander through such stores in such a way that I at least walk by the women's clothing department. As I did that, I spotted a dress that called my name. I went over to look at it closer and decided I'd like to try it on. Mind you, I was working in the maintenance department of a machine shop and was wearing a uniform. After work, I looked like I had been in close contact with a dirty job. No doubt that I was male bodied.

I took the dress to the check stand and asked if there was any place I could try it on. The lady never even blinked and pointed to the fitting rooms behind her.

These days when I'm out and about I don't hesitate to use the women's restroom when nature calls. I won't buy clothes anywhere I can't try them on.
