As I mentioned in my last post Thank you for a blast from the past to Tiffany Shar I am currently re-reading some of the stories posted many “turnings of the seasons” back. Some of these I not read in over a decade. On re-reading them now, I remember having read them in the past. This fact is also confirmed by the fact many of parts have a Kudos registered to my user ID. Case in point with the latest story I just finished reading: In one of the comments the author mentioned that the first few parts had suffered some character (as in alphabet) corruption and she would re-post them to clear that problem. And it seems that in so doing at least some Kudos got lost, since there was none registered to my name. So I make sure that every “chapter” I re-read [and enjoy] has a duly registered Kudos from my user ID.

I just spent almost 12 hours yesterday and another 14 hours today binge reading today's story recommendation. The story Dollar Runaways by Tiffany Shar was posted at the beginning of 2014.

I am at a loss as to name the category in English. In German it falls squarely into the category|classification of “Krimi” or ”Kriminalroman”. That means loosely it is a romance with a strong element of crime and detective, as well as a love story. There is certainly a element of a thriller as well as crime. But the protagonist are definitely the victims of said crime.

The wife of Mafia boss has finally reached her limit with the domestic abuse towards her and her child, and makes a break for it. She manages
to flee without capture clear from northern Ohio to New Mexico. She refused to contact law-enforcement due to knowing they were leaking like a sieve because of a mole infestation. The changing perspectives or point-of-view are sometimes a bit difficult to follow, but give the story a depth and breadth that make for riveting storytelling that makes it very difficult to put down the novel before reaching the end.

All that being said, I also have to issue a word of caution and warning. Though there is absolutely no gratuitous description of violence, there are definitely scene of abuse violence as well as description of how PTSD affects the victims of abuse and/or violence.

Even though Dollar Runaways is not a feel-good story that aims to give you the warm fuzzies, it is well worth the read. Especially if you enjoy a riveting story that at times will have you on the edge of your seat. Though there are also moment of humor that will have you laughing out loud.

Thanks for your comments, I appreciate you revisiting my older works! :-) (I'll have to look into the formatting issues, maybe this weekend if I get some time I'll reupload via my files I have on my computer.)

I'm glad you enjoyed it, thanks again for the shoutout! :-)

My Favorite Tiffany Shar Story...

...and almost certainly in my top half dozen longer-length stories on the site. Really skillfully written and put together, as we track our mother and child, the mom's parents, their Mafia adversary, and the lead federal investigator, with no trouble at all in sorting everyone out.

(Not a complaint, but it occurred to me after almost a dozen readings that the preadolescent major character here is almost a definitive Mary Sue: loved and helped by everyone except the villain, makes friends easily, very intelligent, amazingly adept in skills that she's never tried before.)
