Not on your life

Prostitution

Not on your life. All that's necessary is to find a job that it really doesn't matter how you look or dress. Being trans doesn't mean we have to be a girly-girl. I've been dressing butch for decades at work. Women's clothes from the skin out. Remember cis women rarely wear dresses or skirts these days. If we aspire to be seen as women, then why shouldn't we spend the majority of our time wearing pants?

Making a social transition is, or should be, a slow process. One garment at a time we trade out the men's version for women's keeping it on the butch side of the wardrobe. I currently drive school bus in a small town in Oregon. I wear women's underwear including a bra with C cup forms. My outer clothes consist of women's jeans, women's polo shirts women's tennis shoes and a woman's jacket. No one blinks.

Correcting a prejudice

What you say about societal prejudice towards us very special people is just that, a premade and preconceived judgment. A pre-judgement if you will.

Please go read the recent posts on the passing of Lynn Conway. Barbie has even posted a link to Lynn's special section of her website at https://bigclosetr.us/topshelf/blog-entry/102646/lynn-conway-has-passed-away.

As I stated in a comment to that post, I stumbled upon Lynn Conway's website in the very early 2000s. And especially her TS Success pages had a huge positive impact on me. Only about one third of the listed people went into “show business”, which is often an euphemism for “sex work” of some sort. I have even recognized one of the listed persons on some press releases and press photos released by NASA in the mid-2010s.

Sadly many of our pioneers had to resort to such low-life tactics to survive. But today that incidence seems to be on par with the general population average. I have even got to know and meet in person with trans-folk, and non of them have been or are involved with anything resembling “sex work” or even prostitution.
