Spring Cleaning

It's that time of year again, at least here in the northern hemisphere, when the first gleanings of the oncoming summer are inspiring people to get up, get out, and get things taken care of they may have allowed to lapse during the winter doldrums. Sometimes, our characters are no different.

I wanna see folks come out of the gate with stories about the spring and fresh starts. Actual spring cleaning being featured is encouraged, but not required -- just general spring-y vibes.

The usual here: I'd prefer to see stories that are either actively being worked on or are already complete.

I'm gonna give in and start kicking things off myself this time:

"Bridesmaid" by Miss Jessica

There are a few chapters in here that push the "R" rating limit I like to impose on these quite a bit... but honestly, I've re-read this story quite a few times. The characters are a little self-centered, but something about it keeps me coming back, and the author is even writing a brand new story right now!

I have just re-read Snafu

A novel I wrote about 20 years ago, it was republished here about five years ago and for those who haven't read it, it's a rollocking trip with lots of action and sleight of lip, but I had forgotten much of the plot and was quite pleased that it still hung together as a comprehensive plot and storyline. So give it a try.

New beginnings

What comes to my mind are as follows:

  • Tommy - The Trials and Tribulations of a Girl? by Teddie S. is a story set in the mid 1950s to the late 1960s that starts out in Ohio and ends up in New Mexico. The epic 253 chapters take some time to read through, but are well worth the time and effort. The reader can learn about Native American culture, family values, academic life and research, as well as some aspects of the cold war and the space race.
  • VentureRealm Amusement Park by Alecia Snowfall tells the story of how a small boy, who was severely abused by his parents, is able to make his personal dream come true and become the literal Queen Tessa of the VentureRealm Amusement Park. And in the process giving new meaning and new hope to dozens of people, cleaning up the local city and bringing joy to not only children, but also parents.
  • Frills by Alecia Snowfall is a high school saga of unconditional friendship among three classmates, and how the unconventional friendship and mentorship with the town's grand dame has a ripple effect far beyond the local community.
  • PomPom Fortress by Alecia Snowfall is another school friendship saga, though set in middle school. Unconditional friendships can really help overcome a multitude of challenges.
  • Project Guardian and Project Guardian. Book Two: Avenging Angel by Sara UK are a bit darker. But even so they are a celebration of life and new beginnings.
  • The “You Have It All Wrong” Universe by Sara UK is a web of interrelated story-lines that manages to weave a wonderful tapestry of friendships, new beginnings and new families.

All excellent stories...

Bridesmaid might have been one of the first stories I read here. Always thought it deserved a follow-up. Did Jessica stay Jessica?
Did she marry Adam? Did Lisa and Jim eventually kill each other? Lastly, NYC today is vastly different from the story's time frame, which makes you wonder how the main characters are coping.

Snafu is a classic, and definitely time for a re-read.

All of Snowfall's works are wonderful, and here's hoping that they are doing well on the pay site. The commenter above left out Snowfall's magnum opus, The Station's Late Night Princess, which kinda fits with the them of this post.

Completely agree with the inclusion of SaraUK's stories, again time for a re-read.

Three writers to add to the list:
- SamanthaMD's A New Start is completely on topic for this post.

- AmyLikesDancing has a work in progress also named A New Start, and A Needed Change is a fantastic romp,
with the added bonus of some great graphics.

- MarianneG's current story, By Any Other Name, has great potential, and a premise that seems new. In genre fiction, that's a cool trick.
