With Melanie and Erin now pulling together, it seems that Doppler Press is taking larger strides.
Just a reminder to all that Doppler is a major source of funding for BCTS, so buying something for your summer kindle reading helps keep everything going.
On Wednesday Doppler published my latest book "No Substitute for Romance" which comprises 15 stories about genuine imposters - meaning not just men presenting as women, but presenting as one woman in particular - identity theft.
The key story in this (and the longest at 8,850 words) was a story about a surgeon's assistant who needs to substitute for the gangster lying dead on the operating table. This was a complex explanation for why a regular guy would undergo a sex change, which I suppose is a common theme for me.
Anyway, I was working on this story and I decided to look through my back catalog to see whether I had any stories that might fit this imposter category and I found four, plus one I snuck in on tenuous grounds. That hardly makes an anthology, so I sat down and wrote nine new stories, some of which I have posted since such as "Miss Adventure" and some that remain only in this book.
People may know that I like a challenge, but this is one I created for myself. I think the results are quite good.
I have posted another story today that had a big part in pushing this, being based on what must be the classic story of an imposter who almost got there - the Tichbourne Claimant. You might like to Google that.
Happy reading
Maryanne

Do Do That Voodoo

. . .that you do so well.

It has to be voodoo. There's no other explanation for how someone can come up with so many unique plots, characters, tropes, historical references, twists, etc.

There have been prolific writers on various sites before. But their offerings quickly became tedious formula regurgitation. Given the quantity of their efforts you still had to admire their output.

You're the first to marry volume with quality.

Your writing is so good it's frustrating in that each story could be considered a synopsis for a novel.

We have several iconic writers on BC. Bru dominates the shorts short category. Angharad has no peer in the never ending serial. Laika is the apex of turning a story on its head and then inverting it. Andrea excels at song parody.

You've moved in with them.

(I could not locate this book on Amazon.)

I'm taking a short break

From a leisurely stroll in the fertile pasture of your mind. It's nice to read a story or two and then give it some time to develope while checking email, weather, and interesting web sites. As Jill points out, your style is unique. The talent here on BCTS is substantial and your work stands out. Thanks. Time to go back to Kindle.
