Got a new monitor, an LG C2 42" 4k OLED tv/gaming monitor. Upgraded from a dying 7 year old lcd, no problem, right? 2 year old Alienware, 3060 graphics card, should handle it without a problem, easy-peasy! Off the desk with the old monitor, totally rearrange the desk, piss off the kitties because their bed was moved, and start it up. This was it! The moment of glorious amazement was unfolding. There it was, a loading screen with Alienware logo.
Wait for it, anticipation building, just a few more moments now. Aha! Windows login screen flickered. Wait, what?!? It'll come back, just readjusting resolution, right? And wait. Wait some more. No joy... Okay, maybe the tv doesn't like PC output. Fine, test it with the Beelink NUC. Hmm, that works. Pi 4 8GB? worked fine, didn't even have to tweak the config file. Drum fingers, check cables and change out. No Joy. Okay, bypass KVM? Still no luck. Bash head against wall since desk is still full. Fine, I give up. Put PC back on monitor. Nothing... Now what? Open case and look around, watch it boot. Odd, no fanspin video card. Check other startup items. lights come on, spin up on the other fans? hmm. okay, starting to get worried now. Is it on the network? Yes, Think think think...
Okay then! Ah, fans on all but the vid card come up, on network, just no video. And the vid card isn't even heating up? This ain't good. need to find my USB C docking station, HP but it might work. Still under warranty, so all is not lost, but need top break into it and replace the 512 GB SSD and 1 TB HDD, so I don't lose anything when they wipe it. Or clone to the 4TB SSD I bought myself for Christmas and the spare 18TB HDD...
And maybe, just maybe, take this as a learning experience to start backing things up to my cloud that I need to finish setting up properly. And waiting for a friend to get home so I can try with a different card /sigh
And maybe resurrect the story on the drive, 3rd story of 3 that I have lost this way, Maybe someday I will learn /shrug

Diana, all of us have been there done that. The sad part is, it doesn't help when someone says, I know. They may feel better having sent their sympathy but it sure didn't help salvage the data or the computer.

And Google hasn't synced since February?!? Yeah, I think this was due in part to my own hand, I made it too secure...
Forced 2FA authentication by hardware, and the one authenticator isn't working now. /sigh

5 minute job
The best way to estimate the time it will take and never estimate to short a time.
Take the time you think it should take (5 minutes) double it, (10 minutes) and then bump it up to the next largest time increment (10 hours). There you have it, it shouldn't take more than 10 hours to do the 5 minute job.

The 90/90 rule
The first 90 percent of the task will take 90 percent of the time. The last 10 percent takes and additional 90 percent of the time.
Thus, with rounding we get, always double the original estimate.
Another guiding principle, never try to slip in a quick fix or 5-minute task before a deadline.

If I knew the answer to that one honey,
I'd be a millionaire at the very least. My only suggestions for times like that is to either get your S.O. to herd cats for you or to find a room with a door to write in. In my house, we have too many cats to try and herd them so I just hide away in my room with my laptop. I do know for certain that trying to explain it to the cat is like putting lipstick on a pig - it does no good and just annoys the cat.
