For a pretty long while, I've been thinking of adding to my story"Chance and Hope", but my ideas seem to wander all over the place, with no real focus. Recently, while reading some stories set in the Whateley Academy Universe, and it occurred to me that my story might fit in that universe. The only problem is, I'm not really sure how much I'd need to change my story to make it fit in that universe.
So ... is there anyone out there familiar with Whateley Academy, who would be able to offer pointers on what might be needed to make this idea work? While I rather not change my story too much, I think the structure of an existing universe might help me focus better on finding a path forward.

Such a choice would, I think, really depend on where you wanted the story to go. Fitting in the Whateley Universe could certainly be done with some consideration for what powers/magic/etc. were behind the transformation - and how/if they continue to be active. I'm more familiar with the 'older' stories and haven't delved into such powers analysis in a long time though - so someone else would likely be better to offer the practical 'rules' guidance for such. Your story so far has many unanswered questions that could be filled in with all kinds of different things to take it in various directions.
The other thing to think about is what part of the Whateley timeline to set the story in: Generation One, or Two, or in between, or...? Lots of choices there which could have implications depending on where you take it.
Although if your plan is for the story to always remain 'non-canon' then you are free to do whatever you want (like I certainly did with mine lol). :)
Going non-cannon ...
... sounds like a pretty good idea! While I'm somewhat familiar with the universe, it's been years since I've read any cannon stories, so what I can still remember is probably way out of date. Thanks so much for the feedback, Erisian! :)
Well, as one of the canon authors...
if you want to write non-canon, you have more freedom in writing non-canon. Still, I would advise that it might be helpful to catch up on canon... if for no other reason than avoiding things like "You mean I've been writing stuff on a character that was killed off three years ago" and the like.

That makes sense. Diving back into those stories again sounds like lotsa fun! I mean, researching. Yes, no fun being had here. ;)
