Today I have posted the story “The News”, or it could be the “The News from Ridgewick” which I wrote at the urging of Tracy Lane. In this story I was the reporter trying to get my head around “The Ridgewick Phenomenon”, with a view to picking up on other stories exploring the consequences of Toxically Induced Sexual Morphism (see Transfiction Wiki – link is on your screen above - second line second from the left).

I was a little disappointed that more writers didn’t stoop to pick up the apple that Tracy threw out, but perhaps my story might persuade you to take another look. Tracy already has a cast of characters who might have their own story to tell – like when Coach Phillips finds that 20% of his youth football team have become girls, or Reverend Daniels faced with giving advice to a young transformed parishioner, and then along comes the case of Wesley Nevin.

There is plenty of scope here, and as I suggested to Tracy little tales of less than 2,000 words like “The News” should present no great challenge for the talent that we have here in our little community?

Perhaps...?

Perhaps this should be a competition? That way, you will probably get more interest. TBH, your blog post was the first that I'd heard about the story idea. I'm probably not alone there. Not everyone was aware of the 'challenge'.
Just a thought...

Hi Samantha

Thanks for your reply. I though I might provide a little background on this subject for anyone who's interested.

The "Ridgewick Project" was originally pitched as a collaborative novel to be published through Doppler Press, the proceeds of which would go to the BigCloset Hatbox. You can read the initial proposals here:

Collaborative Book
The Ridgewick Phenomenon

We received a few expressions of interest from different authors, but ultimately, only Maryanne and I produced any actual content for the collection. Admittedly, I was distracted by another project around the same time (ie, the TG Wiki) and allowed the "Ridgewick Chronicles" to go dormant for several months. I guess you could say that the blame rests firmly on my shoulders in this instance.

However, the door is always open for new contributions, and we'd be most grateful for any submissions we might receive. In light of the current financial crisis the site is facing, we'd be shutting the barn door after the horse has already bolted (so to speak), but assuming BC survives into the new year - which I believe it will - we might be able to lend a hand once the horse comes home.

As Maryanne noted above, general summaries for the project may be read on Transfiction Wiki:

And two short pieces by Maryanne and myself are available here on BC:

The News (Maryanne Peters)
The Girl in the Tree (part 1, Tracy Lane)
The Girl in the Tree (part 2, Tracy Lane)

As previously mentioned, we'd be grateful for any submissions, feedback or insights on this subject. Replies may be posted below or via PM if desired. Anyway, looking forward to reading your responses, and thanks very much for your time.

Regards, Tracy.
